Side Remote Mirror Disassambly ??

I am in the process of trying to remove the actual round mirror part from my side mirror from my '69 so I can get it off to be re-plated.  I am curious to see how others have gotten the remote cables apart from the two chrome pieces so that I can get it back together.

Do I have to carefully pry the points circled in the first pic apart or what??

Ghoste

Just asking, but what is it going to cost to have it replated?  I only ask because it might be cheaper to get the repop.

Nacho has had limited sucess on this process. He used a screw driver and worked them open. Probably better like Ghoste suggested.

Well I actually already have the two bezels that are replated from another mirror and I just got this one since the cables were shot from that previous one.

I got it replated i think back in like 2002 or something up in Winnipeg and I think I sent up something like 40 pieces, both stainless and stuff to get replated and it ended up only being like $700 and some.  That included all the vinyl top stuff, door handles (in and out), wheel wheel trim, re-anodized the grille trim, and quite a few little things as well.  I will be heading back up there once I get my passport to take a few more pieces up there.

Well since I got this mirror pretty cheap I will probably give it a go, limited success is at least a chance and will save me a couple hundred bucks over a repop

Thanks guys

Had also to mill a little bit because wire ends were TOO DEEP into the pot metal.

Wire covers retainers were lot easier to spread out

Then on reassembly I didn't crimp completelly back... just slightly and then filled with epoxy

Also the cables are color coded when new and need to go in the original positions when reinstalled or they will not function correctly.  JB WELD works well if you need to do any pot metal repairs.  I made a decent mirror from '71 & '73 mirrors
