I had this 68 charger in 1986 when I was in high school.  I sold the car to a guy I went to school with.  Don't have the Vin, but I do remember the plate number.  Any chance of tracking this down in NY?

I plan on searching the web but I figured maybe somone in NY had done something similar...thanks.

the new privacy laws are hurting your chances of finding it unless you have a friend on the force or at DMV, i got lucky and did my search back in 94 right after i bought it

Yep, CA will only tell me the guys name that owned my car.  No info of what town or address.  I even had a lawyer send a letter asking for info and got the same just his name letter.
Go to the town hall of where you lived when you owned the car and look up your address and name in the records book and you will find the VIN.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

If I were you, I'd definately start hitting up whatever Mopar clubs are in your area, for information.
Networking - spreading the word of your search - seems to be the best way to go.
I got a couple of newspaper editors involved in my quest for my old Challenger, and that is one way to get the word out in a big way.
As it turned out it worked! :2thumbs:

Sure beats the Private Investigator I paid.....who still hasn't found it.

Do you remember the guys name that you sold it to?  Can you track him down and ask him who he sold it to and so on?

My advise is....if anybody ever says you have no chance of finding it; ignore them. Robin found the Challenger and I've got a really good lead on my dad's old '69 GTO. Just gotta let the right people know about your search. Good luck!

Try Wayne Wooten at The Dodge Charger registry. He'd probably need the Vin, but it's worth a try. He found my father's '68 Charger. Good Luck
