I had some posts on here about buying an rt,se,4sp car a week ago or so. I inspected the car yesterday and found that the trunk pan needs replaced. There was also rust around the rear window sill. How typical is this on the chargers and anybody have expierience in the cost of replacing the trunk pan. I would like some advise from some of the senior members and I can forward the pic's I took yesterday also. My e-mail is sparkybr74@hotmail.com  I am looking at around 21k for the car. steven

Yes, the trunk pan and rear window pillars/sill are typical places for rust. Send me your photos (if you'd like) and I'll post them. Search in the forum for trunk floors.

Hmm, 4-speed R/T SE...what is not to like (except for not being a '68  :icon_smile_wink:). Will need some sheet metal work but looks whole enough. Take a look at this thread to get an idea of what to look at when you look closely at one of these beauties.  :2thumbs:

Seems to me that a complete car like that, even with the rust, is worth the 21K... The rust is very typical for a Charger....

Is that car in the Odessa area? If thats the one it was on Ebay a while back and bid up to around $18k if memory serves (reserve was not met). I think 21k is just a tad high, but not much  :shruggy:

The car was located in El Paso TX, same one you are talking about. I did see it on e-bay at the time I believe 3 months ago.

Dig deep for body filler. That rear valence looks like it's been mudded over.. I'd be wondering what else.

I bought a RT/SE 4speed Trackpack stripped from all SE stuff in primer and Dana missing, now not running to for 40k(sure mine is a 69 but anyway) a year ago, sure body is better. If i had known then what i know now...

I say go for it.

Hello,

That looks like a pretty good starting point. One word of caution, sheet metal adds up in a hurry. My 68 looked much the same as yours and I now have over 10 grand in sheet metal. I live in Northern British Columbia , Canada and am a long ways from AMD so the freight is the killer for me. I recently bought a new one piece floor pan and inner fenders the cost was 900 US for the parts. By the time I received them, paid shipping and duty  it was 2200 canadian. Ouch!! You may want to weigh the pros and cons of cars you are loking at as maybe the 30k car is a better deal than the 21k unit and would save you a lot of work ad perhaps some money in the long run.

The replacement of the panels can be done by yourself if you have a mig or tig welder, some grinders and drills. Plus, a bit of patience. All the guys on this site are extremely knowledgeable and helpful and can assist with as much information as you require. I am no pro at this and have been able to perform this work on my 68 with little difficulty. Well maybe a bit!!

Good luck,

Cheers,

James
