If it was wrecked in the 1980's, then i would imagine that the parts were mega easy to find. I bet someone has it restored now. :yesnod:

Parts are actually easier to find in the 2000's than they were in the 1980's. There was a limited supply of original parts, and no one was reproducing anything for these cars in the early 80's. By the late 80's it was started to be a different story.

CornDogsCharger

Actually, according to Janik's webpage he has been re-popping Superbird parts since 1978.  Granted they were fiberglass and the quality probably wasn't so good... they were available.

I have a old magazine from 1989 and a company called Detroit Originals made repro Fiberglass Daytona parts.

I keep hearing about a smashed in Hemi Bird near me - Even know who apparently has it but the man stopped showing up at all the local Mopar shows 5 years ago and never called me back after me leaving 10 or so messages. It was smashed in the late 70's/early 80's. Not sure if he still has it/color/trans nothing.

Not much to go on to figure out where this car is today and if its fixed . But not knowing who owned it then and no vin .As its entitled Jims superbird and no vin or lastname.Car appears to have Indiana plates. His other photos are Indiana car shows .And used machine shop for his Chevy in same area. And the group of wingcars they show parked with his is wingcar club members .I recognized Dan Gaddis green daytona .Thats now a Bobby Isaac clone. But cant think of a Jim in Indiana around that time who had a Vit C 440 Automatic superbird

Let me go look at the ad. It is buried in one of my vintage magazines. :yesnod:

WingCharger

FOUND!! October 1988 issue of "Guide to Muscle Cars" on page 10.

"1969 Dodge Daytona Reproduction STEEL NOSE CONE includes 2 "Z"-brackets & 2 "straight brackets" necessary for installation."
Even has a picture too.

No price is printed unfortunately. :'(

nascarxx29

The reason I can remember the $3000.00.Is I had gotten my daytona before that time .And couldnt justify spending $3000.00 on just one area of the car on a extra nose

Interesting story....with an unhappy end.

Howdy all,

A guy with way more money than brains talked me out of my (this very) 'bird in 1982. He bought it on Monday and Wrecked it the following Saturday night... Mind you, I owned it for three years and never put a scratch on it...

Yes, it was restored by me.. Allsate paid me about $6,000.00 to put it back together.. I took the photo of the car on Sunday morning outside my body shop where it was towed after the crash.

It was then sold to a guy in Warsaw Indiana who owned it until 1999 or so. He sold it via Hemmings in 1999 or 2000 for $35,000.00 It is now the original white color.

It was a RM23UOA car with buckets and console automatic. 63,000 miles when I had it.

Here is the web page of this car: http://www.jims59.com/70superbird/index.html

Likely an easy fix these days....did you consider a back-half clip? Or was it just too expensive?

Would the 'bird happen to be a Lemon Twist Auto console shift? If it is, it is the same one I know of through a friend. I have an NOS nose cone that really needs to be paired up with that car!!

maxwellwedge

I think I recall it being Lemon Twist...other than that I never heard what trans etc. I think I'll look through my old notes for the phone number and give it another shot.

70426rtse

My buddy has been trying to get ahold of him also with no luck. We are suspecting that he has health issues. My buddy sent me a video of the car years ago and while I watched it the guy held up the fender tag and read it. It sounded familiar on the VIN, so I went and pulled my saved copy of the Lemon Twist Hemi Superbird I used to have. Would you believe CONSECUTIVE VINs !!! YUP!  Identical Superbirds with consecutive VIN's. That car needs to get restored and meet up with its long lost twin brother! What a mag feature that would be!!
