I'm still having clearance issues with the valve covers on my 472 Hemi crate motor..

This guy sells valve covers, and tells me they are 1/2" taller for added clearance to solve problems like I'm having...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=400022539996

Anyways, what I'm wondering is (because these are taller) will I have issues with the plug wires/tubes???

For anyone that's ever looked for Hemi valve covers, these are CHEAP and the guy has great feedback, so I'm hoping for the best.. It sure beats the $600-900 options that are out there...

this might be a cheaper way of getting the clearance you need.

but i'm not sure if the stock spark plug tubes would be long enough or not.

when i built my engine the valve covers were rubbing on the exhaust retainers but i was able to use a dremal and a stone to clearance the inside of the cover.

I was going to try those, but the guy who "clearanced" my valve covers (the chrome set that came with the motor) kind of made a mess of them, so I'm looking to replace them.. Thank you though, I was looking for that link!!

what area are you have the clearance problems at?

Indy has a set of taller covers for there Legend heads but as you stated they are on the expensive side.

those covers you attached the photo of look like good covers coarse i would be concerned of inner fender clearance problems with them.

The rockers are hitting the inside of the covers..

Rolling_Thunder

that is common on hemis it seems...    had that problem with a customer's INDY crate hemi...    :flame:

Ok, my next question (on this topic), I bought a set of valve covers just like post #1, but they didn't come with breathers..  Are they necessary?? There's a cut-out spot on the inside of the cover(s) for breathers...

FLG

You need to vent the crankcase, its essential. Im not familiar at all with hemis but im going to assume it also applies to them.

Hey jb666, take this as a hint that a Dry Sump Oil System is meant to be. :D :D
Dry Sumps don't use vents. :yesnod:

Dont know about you but i still say it needs venting, even thinking about it now i cant remember a hemi i havent seen without a breather or a PCV valve.

Right.

From the factory the motor came with a round breather on the passenger's side. I replaced that with a PCV valve. Now that I have the new covers, they are set up with nothing.. The guy who did all of my metal work tells me I should definitely have a breather on each cover.

Charger-Bodie

You should have a breather on the drivers side and the pcv on the passengers side.

Just breathers can be done ,but if the motor has or develops any blow-by it will be messy cause the oil mist will come out the breather.....That's basically the reason they developed the pcv system.

My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............
