Hi gang, looking at buying a 2000 dodge ram 3500 dually 4wd (actually at that point would it be 6wd? ) it has 80,000 miles, 5.9 gas engine, trans has about 30,000 since rebuild.New tires and catalatyc converters that I know of.Its a work truck rubber floor mat etc..has a/c. Its more truck than I need but I have been looking for a ram 4wd to get parts for the charger and for winter. The down side is that is has a enclosed utility box for a bed instead of the dually bed :icon_smile_blackeye: . Just curious to what you think it might be worth, but it and do a little and flip it or convert the bed back(not sure on a cost for that yet).I'm trying to post a pic but the whole resizing thing is killing me. Give me your opinion, thanks! :icon_smile_big:

~$4500? Only 50k miles & a 360 needed a rebuild?  :scratchchin:

My 99 Ram needed a tranny rebuild, buddys 95 Ram needed one too...seems like a usual thing with these trucks  :shruggy:

I've heard of a few trans issues w/Rams. Are these all 518? 4spd auto's?

those trucks go thru tranny's for whatever reason.
2000 5.9L 3500 AWD SLT Laramie with 95K miles in average condition did $2500 at auction last month.
This was Mannheim dealer auction- not a public one.  Only 1 of that kind in the US in last 6 mos.  Value does not consider workbox or cap.
$4000 retail me thinks.  Your private seller isn't going to get more than $3000 from a dealer,  probably the $2500 plus the "tax credit".
Fresh trans is nice,  fresh rubber would be nicer and an interior that's not beat to hell and smoked out pay him up to $3K.
This is site unseen and just one experienced sheisters opinion

He said the tires have less than 10,000 miles on them.I wonder if its worth more with the utility box or if switching to a dually bed is worth it.

I'm not sure, but don't some cab&chassis trucks have a narrower rear than the duelies?

I thought the 3500 series dually trucks were the same except for maybe bed length? :scratchchin:

Check the cab to axle distance also. I am not sure about newer trucks but older (pre 93) pickups had a 56" cab to axle distance and cab & chassis' had a 60" cab to axle distance.

He did say the box was almost 9 feet long, I assumed it was 8 or 8.5 or whatever the long bed is. I wonder if the v.i.n. will tell the tale as well? :scratchchin:

Its probably a cab/chassis truck.  You could probably swap the utility bed for a flatbed. That would be the easiest way to do things. With the 360 gas instead of the Cummins really hurts its value.

I have the chance to pick it up for 1500.00, will the vin number identify if its a cab/chassis truck or considered a normal truck that can be converted to a dually bed?

If you can drive it home you better grab it for 1500$ Thats a no brainer!  Find someone to buy or swap for the utility box and go put you a flatbed on it and use it until its used up.

Theres someone out there that needs a utility box and they dont have the $$$ to buy one as they can be expensive. It would be a win win situation for a flatbed swap for you.

I agree.

That is definitely a cab and chassis.   They make them in different wheelbases from the standard pickup.  Because the rear rails are different, a regular pickup bed probably will not fit.  Run as is, or convert to a flatbed.

Todd Wilson

I believe the frame should be 11 inchs or so on a cab/chassis and 6-7 inchs on the 3500 dually.

If its a cab/chassis it should be heavier then the normal 3500.

Todd

bmoparmofo

By the 11 inch or 6 or 7 ince are you referring to thickness of the frame? Or? If its a cab and chassis it should still be worth the 1500.00 I imagine.Yes the truck runs and drives well.
