Hey Guys,

Where can I find the tin foil type insulation Ma Mopar installed under the intakes of 440's?

My engine is a little hard to start after driving for awhile, and I didn't install that after the rebuild.

Thanks !!

I brought that up before and was told it was more for noise than a deterrence for heat.  :Twocents:

In fact if anything, the foil it's wrapped in likely helps to conduct heat to the bottom of the manifold over just having the air flow through there.   You're further ahead to get an insulating spacer of some sort under the carb.  It doesn't have to be a big one incher to help, the factory one was only about a 1/4 inch.

Thanks guys, I have the factory spacer on it now. Wonder what to do? Maybe a piece of Dynamat?

Personally I'm skeptical that is the silver bullet but if you have a piece of dynamat lying around, it costs nothing to try.  Give it a whirl.

Thanks guys, I'm grasping at straws here. Just trying to figure something out.

Yeah it's pretty frustrating.  It's something a lot of us have struggled with as well and it seems to be mostly related to the quality of modern fuels.

"well this is just my opinion" now that Ive said that fasten your seat belt cause here it comes. You can either retard the timing a few degrees or step on the gas a few times before cranking it."seems to me that as long as these  :Twocents:cars have been around people would have an idea of what makes them tic" ...Smart azz in middle GA.

Retard the timing? NEVER !

Problem is, it isn't just a couple of pumps of the peddle.  After some research, seems like it may be a function of today's poor quality gas. Gonna try putting some cam2 in it and see if it still acts that way. Check out this site for a cool 93 vs 100 octane fuel mix chart:

Yes - On C-bodies. Didn't come on HP 440's

Bob is correct, the foil-wrapped pad is a sound deadener not insulation, it was intended to reduce noise from the tappet chamber. If you're having heat related fuel problems it's the last thing you want to add and the first thing you want to toss.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Are you running a fuel vapor separator?
