Headman Headers are hitting gearbox, tortion bar and mini starter

I bought the Headman Headers for my 70 Charger from Summit.  When we went to install them, they hit mini starter, tortion bar and gearbox.  Had anyone else had this problem?  I spoke to the Summit rep on the phone and he knew what vehicle I was putting it in.

Any thoughts?

The passenger side one fit perfectly.

I think a friend of mine couldn't fit his brand new Summit ministarter on his 73 with brand new ( mounted before ) hedman headers either !!!

Not sure REALLY if are Hedman, but allmost sure. Got to mount back the stock starter.

Not a problem with TBs, but of course we are talking about diff year model

I originally had Headman Headers on my 69 - 440 (3/4" primaries).  I had to message (beat the snot out of) them for the power steering box and torsion bar. My starter cleared but I don't know which one I had.

I now have Doug's 2" primaries.
Drivers side has no issues - I have the 440 source mini starter.
Passenger side barely fit- I made small indents (just for piece of mind) around the torsion bar and shock tower.

From what I've on other posts - the TTI's are the best fitting- also the most $$$.

I have Hedman on my car and they fit really well but it's a low deck so that may be all the difference.

Not sure about the mini starter interferance but if the driver side motor mount biscuit is compressed or worn it it will lower the engine enough to create problems with fitment. The headmans fit fine in my old 440 combo with iron heads, power steering and a stock starter. The starter was a 318/340 model which is smaller than the big block version. I never did try to fit a mini in there so i can't answer that question.

Is it the same header for the 73 as it is for 67?  There shouldn't be so many differences that they fit one car well and the next so poorly, is it just poor build quality?

Nacho-RT74

Never have seen a different headers aplication allong the years when talking about Bodies line :shruggy: ... at leats what I'm aware off

i've had super comps on both a 383 and a 440 in my Charger...    only problem was with the 383 the headers hang way low...   so I got the oxy-torch - heated the tubes and bent the collectors up   :yesnod:

Supercomps are nice - I just wouldn't recommend them if you have angled plugs on your heads - tried that - you'll have serious issues on the drivers side.

new motor mounts are made thinner than old mounts. try shimming the drivers side mount up, that will help with the everything but the starter.   headmans and mini starters dont get along very well in my experiance. i had to massage a pipe on my daughters car to run a mini starter.    i do have a friend that has a mini starter on his 69 440 coronet 500 and it fit fine.... go figure..
