Last night I spent about five hours gutting the interior and only left the wiring, steering wheel and heater box. Found the floors in worse shape than I was hoping for and no broadcast sheet anywhere. But I was not disappointed because that's pretty much how I expected things to be. I wonder how much stuff I should remove? It's going to be media blasted and I'm having the outside, trunk, engine compartment and door jams painted. Do I need to remove the wiring harness?

Anyway, here's someone's idea of a nice interior customization. I did find a use for it though as a droplight holder.

That is kinda funky, but not too terrible in my book. It could have been velour or sheepskin. :icon_smile_big:
Looks like it's fairly thick vinyl?

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

So you're keeping your current car and not selling to buy a running driving car?  Thats cool .   Those floors look rust free where i come from.

The front floor pans look real sweet compared to mine. What year is that? Any pics of the engine/exterior? -dave

Yea, I decided to keep the old '68. Can't turn back now. The color of that headliner is a kind of marbled blue and it was pretty thick. Whoever did it also glued it to the door panels and arm rests. I tore it all out because the previous owner had already purchased the correct headliner, carpet and seat covers from Year One. The seat are a faded black velour of some sort and the carpet was gray carpet for a house. So I had blue, black, gray and faded black in the interior.

Also, I was able to locate the holes for the Charger emblem on the sail panels. There's bondo squished through the holes so they should open up when the car gets blasted. I'm glad they haven't been welded shut.

Me no like that head liner (pimp my  ride??)  :Twocents:

And, :2thumbs: for you keeping the 68 and not selling for a driver, shows you got character

Or maybe dumber than a brick.

All you needed was the mirror disco ball hanging by the interior light.  :icon_smile_big:

The floor looks pretty good. Looks like just surface rust. Nice project! What media are they using? Plastic, glass, walnut shells, etc...
I would remove as much and many pieces out of the car as possible. Including the wire harness. If you are going through all this trouble, make sure it's done right and worthwhile. If the heater box is going to remain, makesure you cover all the intakes and discharge vents. The media gets everywhere and it's hard to get out!!! I found a whole mess of media blast accumulated on the cowling where the large vent hoses are connected to the exterior below the windshield. I had to neck down the shop vac hose from 3.5" down to 1" to get in the tight spaces and vacumm all the accumulated plastic media. Good luck.

I thought it was a pool liner at first!

BTW, the floor don't look that bad and keep on taking pictures of the dismantle.

The only place on the floor I see daylight is on the driver's side about three or four inches behind the base of the gas peddle, right where your heel goes. I'll have to deal with that. They don't sell 4spd floor pans do they? I guess I'll have to get a regular one and cut the hump portion out.

I believe the guy told me he uses plastic beads. I may actually pull the heater box too because when else am I going to have easier access to the heater core? $20 says it's bad anyway.

Geesh, aren't we optimistic this morning!

Bull, put 12 lbs of air pressure and test it to see if it leaks - it should the pressure indefinitely, then run a muriatic acid solution through the heater core it to clean it. If you restore the heater box, take a lot of pictures. I just did mine and it was a bitch to put together. If all you have is a small hole by the pedal, cut the bad piece out and use the bad piece as a template to bend and form a new piece out of sheet metal and then but weld the new piece on.

The floor pans themselves are exactly the same. Used on column shift cars as well. They just cut a big hole and welded on the hump over top. For a hole that size I wouldn't bother buying a full floor pan. I might actually have a piece left over from cutting mine that you can use.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I would for sure pull the heater box, thats ez and as for the harness, Id be pulling the whole dash and get it all. I had rot on my cowl area and had to pull the heaterbox anyway to weld from the outside. GET IT ALL youre there alreaddy. Good luck with it.

You think that is bad, boy I wish I had a PIC of this. I was helping a friend with a 1970 Challanger R/T S/E. The head liner (it is carboard on the S/E's) had planets, rockship's, stars and Marijuana leaves painted all over it. Fun part was the rest of the car was just redone and was pefect. Eric thought it was painted on the roof, did not know the S/E's had a carboard liner. I pulled it for him and we got it redone.

Here's my hole. Maybe I should cut the hole bigger and put in a little shifter linkage access door. :P

You have a solid car there Bull.

My '68 has about the same size hole as well. I have thought about trying to use a piece out of donor cars rear floorpan to see if the ribs would actually line up. It seems the rear pans survive much better than the fronts. I just have not got around to trying it yet.

i have a similar small hole by my gas pedal, must be pretty common, but the rest of the floor is pretty good.
