Hudson Hornet !

I know that xv makes subframe connectors, but are there other brands available as well? Also, who has he strongest ones? If anyone here has installed pictures, that would be great as well Thankls.
You've never heard of a Hudson hornet ? !

XV and US car tool both make U-shaped ones that are pre-cut to match the bottom of the floor pan, need welding to both the frame rails and floor pan

Mopar performance and I think competition engineering and probably others make a straight square tube connector set that 'slides over' the rear frame rail and butts against the back of the front frame crossmember.  These I think are intended to be bolt-in, but can be welded instead for better results.

Some believe the floor pan set gives more rigidity, others think it probably doesn't matter.  It's universally agreed (I think) that welding is much more rigid than bolting, no matter what set you use.

Personally, I'm right on the verge of getting a set myself, and I'm just goign to get the mopar perf. set and weld them in.  The XV set would probably be my first choice, but I've got my floor pan covered with sound dampening material and I don't want to go through the massive trouble of scraping it out :) .

Nothing to see here folks, its just a Bluesmobile

Ghoste

I didn't know you guys made them, what style would you describe them as?

defiance

from their site: "This kit is fabricated from 2x2x1/8 wall square tubing. Mitered ends make it a snap to install. There is welding required, this is not a bolt-in." so it looks like theirs is the square tubing style.  Nice price too.  pics don't work for me though - can anyone else see them?  Might just be my work filter.

AutoRust

They are weld in ones.
Some browsers dont open the pictures, sometimes work filters stop them. Sorry about that.
Here is a picture of them installed with our torque boxes

Plenty more in the project gallery

ART: Looking through the site now - on the mopar action article they mentioned cutting out a piece of the rear floor pan.  Is that necessary on chargers?  (I'm particularly interested in '71-72, but I'm sure others here are more interested in 2nd gens...)

did not cut any on mine  .... except this small lip  :scratchchin:

There are lots of threads here about subframe connectors. Search them out. My only connection (sorry....) is that I let Magnum Racing (http://www.magnumforce.com/store/results.asp?CategoryID=19) use my '73 to mock up their subframe connectors for the '73 and '74 Chargers. I got a deep discount on their installation.  :yesnod:  :icon_smile_big:

If it's a driveable car that's gonna do more than be an OE-stock appearing resto, then do it.  They cure rattles, tighten the suspension/steering feel, make the doors close & seal better when you've got one wheel on a curb, etc.

SCs and factory-style torque boxes.  It's a good combo that's hard to beat.  It's not very traumatic to the car either.  If you do the SCs right then you can do it all without cutting anything on the underside of the car, just welding some extra things onto it.

If you are going to drag the car and run slicks I would highly recommend them especially when you start making 400 plus HP. I had a mild 440 in a 68 without them and started going to the strip and the body actually started to crack on the LH rear where the 1/4 meets the door frame along the edge. I then fabricated a set and installed hem and never had a problem again.

The article your referring to is "The Green Brick".  Ehrenberg from Mopar Action was in the shop, beefing up an A-body for all kinds of crazy sh*t, and wanted the best possible ones he could get. We used 2x3 tubing, and with the 3" vertical, there was clearence issues with the floor pan. Hence we had to cut it back and sink the SFC into the floor.

All of our 2x2 connectors fit under the floor pan, with no cutting needed. Sometimes you need to trim the flange a bit where the floors join, but that's it.

You don't really need to cut the car in most cases.  Even if the parts line up so that you "need to," most times it's still a better idea to just trim the connectors down as needed to clear the floor.

The SC connectors are not the be-all-end-all of stiffening a chassis.  They're just covering what was the weakest link in the chain as the cars were built.  Once you beefed up that area enough so that the chassis is not flexing predominantly at that spot anymore, then there is no additional gain by piling more steel into the area.  It's time to move on to the next weakest link.  (Which is probably the lack of torque boxes.)
