THE COLONEL

As Dukesfest 07 comes up quickly, I'm asked by two good friends, Derrick Perkins, and Jett Yaskow, and his lovely significant other, Natalie to be a part of the Pit Crew for this years Dukesfest.  Of course I did not decline.  The down side this year, was that to have a car be a part of the autograph session, it had to be a Hazzard County vehicle, and not a tribute car.  Well, The Colonel kind of rode both sides of the fence in a way.  Granite it was not a General Lee yet, as it was just missing the orange paint, and decals, but Bo Duke also did tell me not to paint it, which I was obeying his wishes at the time.  So there are some that thought the Colonel should have been included in the autograph session, because, if not for Bo Duke telling me not to paint it, it would have been done by now, and you can't hold that against me for obeying John Schneider's wishes.  But there are also others that would have complained, because a yellow Charger was in there, and not theirs, which I completely understand.  Well, as time got closer to the autograph session, I was called By Jett to come over to the Nashville Palace, behind Cooter's Place, and come inside as all the cast was there....and to bring The Colonel.  As it turned out, plans were being made by Jett, and John Schneider, to have John drive The Colonel into the autograph session.  Well, as things got very busy with the dinner, and autograph session, it was a little late as I went to pick John up in The Colonel, as he already left for the event.  Toward the end of the autograph session, I am told to get The Colonel, as I am taking John back to his hotel.  As I get The Colonel, and pull into the autograph session, many are wandering what is going on with this yellow Charger.  Well, My son was with me as he sat in the back seat, and John puts his guitar in the trunk, and his wife gets in the back seat too.  I ask John if he wants to drive, and his word is "absolutely"!

As I told John about the car, while he drove The Colonel, he did remember it from Bristol in 2005, and was glad I had not painted it.  He stated to me, it was the "most unique car here".  After we arrived at the Opryland Hotel, I told him that he finally drove The Colonel, and he said "the Colonel is great, The Colonel is good".  So, once again The Colonel adds to his legacy.

The Colonel, in August of 2007 even traveled to Leamington Ontario, Canada for a Cancer Research Fund Raising Event, called "Hair Dare Dukes Day".  The advertisement poster for that year's event had the information for certain cars attending for the weekend.  Yes, even The Colonel was advertised to be there for the event.  Even while driving down the streets of Leamington, (a different country mind you) I overheard some children on bicycles talking, and one said that, "That is the car they call The Colonel".  That was an amazing feeling.   During the weekend, even Don Pedro Colley (Sheriff Little from the neighboring Chickasaw County) was amazed by the car, as also was Byron Cherry, who portrayed Coy Duke in the 5th season of the show in the wake of Bo & Luke leaving for the NASCAR Circuit.  Byron Cherry even wanted a poster of The Colonel for himself, and me to sign to him.  Also during that time, I had the pleasure of driving Mr. Paul Casey, who has his own General Lee replica, back and forth to and from the event.  Paul Casey is a Two Time Entertainer of the year in Las Vegas for his Elvis Presley Trilogy Show, and a good friend, but even he had a blast riding in The Colonel.  So, once again, The Colonel keeps adding to his legacy.  The final picture of the weekend was of all of the cars positioned on the show fairgrounds.  Once again, The Colonel is front and center.  What a life this car has had in his short time as........"The Colonel"!!!

This Winter The Colonel will go through a transformation, but it's not what you think.  The Colonel will say goodbye to the tired old 318 engine for the same refreshed 318, or possibly a rebuilt Big Block.  The engine bay, and underside of the hood, will be all black to match the color scheme of The Colonel.....until when...who knows!

I agree 100% :2thumbs: Don't change it!  I bought my Coronet with every intention to "bastardize" it by changing the color combo..... Now I love it, and would rather sell it before changing its personality.   :badidea:

You should consider buying a General Lee clone before you go changing this one :icon_smile_wink:.  Just my  :Twocents: :Twocents:

Shoot. if I came home with another car......that is all I would own after the divorce!  As of right now, I have no desire to change it.  Do I want a General Lee....sure...I have since I was 3 years old.  I told my parents, when I was 4, that I would have one someday.  I'm close, but I'm happy with it right now.

Thanks for all the compliments guys. :blush2:
