I just found this site and reviewed it and quite impressed with the information and joined.

I just started the restoration of my 1968 Charger R/T at the end of January and was looking for information on all aspects as I did not disassemble the car and nothing is marked or bagged. I am hoping that I will be able to obtain all of the help I require from all you folks out there.

I have pics posted of my progress on CarDomain. Here is the link and some history as well. Any constructive criticism would be much appreciated as I am doing all of the work myself and do not do this for a living and may also have things incorrect. This car will be a driver but I do want to make it as close to factory as possible. At least factory appearing as I do have a stroker engine I may install.

If anybody can point me to threads or a link to threads that detail all of the correct colors for all nuts, bolts etc as well as grease markings it would be greatly appreciated. It is time for me to start compiling this information.

I think you should arm yourself with as much info as you can, starting with the Service Manual and perhaps the Assembly Manuals.

I say perhaps, because I haven't seen the assembly manuals yet, mine are on order and I should see them this week I hope.

I think you'll be disappointed with those Faxon manuals, at least I was.  All they are really are a series of torque specs and with Faxons enormous watermark splashed across them I found them very difficult to read.  You will not receive any info on interior items nor stripe placement or anything of the sort.  They are strictly torque specs for things bolted on.   That is not to say they are completely useless but they are not anything at all what you imagine them to be when you read the Faxon website describing them as an assembly manual.

So, this description from their catalog is BS?

Well, I actually added these on to an order for some other stuff. So, they were a bit of an afterthought - and to make it a worthwhile order.. I know exactly what I'm getting with that other stuff.

Not completely bs but if you have an fsm you already have all of that info.  The part numbers are helpful if you are searching for NOS parts of course and you don't have the 69 parts catalog.
Also, no matter what they say they did NOT use these on the assembly line.  I have talked to a number of line workers from back in the day and have yet to find one that ever saw any sort of "factory assembly manual".  These are engineering drawings.

Here's an example of the Faxon stuff.  I shouldn't be too critical, some may find it a great resource but I found them to be redundant of everything I already have and basically of little value, especially for the price.  Oh and another word of warning for anyone considering these Faxon drawings, they are generic so even though they sell them broken down into the various models they should be sold as body style, ie A-body, B-body and so on.  If you buy the Charger one and the Coronet one, you will get two of the exact same thing.

Welcome home. As you have probably noticed already, we are a pretty tight group of mopar guys that really care about our hobby and helping out whenever and wherever we can. The members here have so much knowledge it is unbelievable.  I don't think you will have any trouble getting help with anything at all..

Your coverage on the cars history is wonderful. I am extremely happy to see you taking the time to record the history and build. These are in many ways our war stories for the good and the bad. Others will allllllways learn from both the good and bad of restorations on every front.

Congrats on getting a piece of your family history back and for having a wonderful family behind you.

You mention "war stories" and that seems to hit the nail on the head, at least  if you look at my hands these days. Damn that sheet metal is sharp.

I looked around a bit last night and as much as I know my project is going to turn out beautiful and better than most you ever see driving around, it will still be sub par to many of the cars I looked at yesterday. Many of these cars are superb to say the least. It is nice to have these cars pics available to push you to do better than you normally would. Of course being able to look at pics and see "how it is supposed to be done" is extremely helpful. Often the only difference is knowing what it should actually be rather than what you think it should be.

Again a big thank you for being accepted.

The only problem is I am spending a bit of time on here now rather than doing the bodywork on my ride! LOL

It would be easier if I enjoyed bodywork more but I am already tired of it. I have not done any in 12 years and am taking a little bit of time to get used to it again. The feel is coming back though. It should be like riding a bike but if that was the case I would be in intensive care in the local hospital. Oh well just a bit more time spent redoing spots I am not happy with.

You're right. They do suck. I got mine today.

There is some good info in there - but pretty much the same can be had in other docs - like you said.

and the watermark is way too dark. I don't mind them protecting their work, but not to the point where it's difficult to read the diagrams.

At leas tthe y came in a nice ziplock bag.  :-\
