20 yr old Magazine with Aero Cars

I'm sure many of you are like me; you have WAY too many old car magazines.  Heck, I have "Hot Rod" back to 1956.  I have MANY old Mopar magazines from the late 80's and early 90's.  Well, I came across my April '89 issue of MoPERFORMANCE.  On the cover was "Wing Cars at Talladega" and I figured I would scan the cover and photos from inside and share them here for everyone to see.  I'm sure some of you may have this issue... some people may have never seen this issue.  Oh well, enjoy the pictures.  Plus.... anyone know any of the owners of the cars??  Anyone here with a pictured car??  I kinda like the Tor-Red.... or just plain red Superbird with the painted top.

Wow I really dig that number 47 superbird...would love to make a clone along those lines. And there is that roadrunner/satellite sitting in the field that I know of...

That's what I plan on doing with a junk '69 Charger that I have.  I havn't decided if I will build it into a Daytona or 500 clone just yet.  I'm gonna try to do it pretty cheap.  But it will at least be a Charger stock car.  Probably do a #71 K&K Ins. clone.

The #47 Ramo Stott Superbird truly is the purest of the few surviving wing race cars.    When it showed up at the meet in 1988, it had just been purchased from Ramo.   Over three seasons of racing, it never had a serious on-track accident.   When the car was retired after the 1972 USAC season, it was pushed off into a corner of the shop just as you see it.   Ramo had a new 1971 Road Runner in his fleet and the Bird was spared being rebodied.    At that 1988 meet,  it was completely unrestored and still had all the rubber caked in the fenderwells from seasons of speedway racing.

I have a old Muscle Car magazine from the '80s with a green Superbird being restored. They had finished up boring the 440 over .30 in my last issue.

In the group photo that shows 3 Daytonas, isn't the R4 red one on the right 3Daytona's car? And then the third car in line would be Tim W's car now right? Carl Cameron owns the Y4 gold one shown driving down the road in one picture as well.

Whose Petty Superbird is that on the high bank?  It looks like the one in the Petty Museum.  Were there any captions with the photos?

It is the Dave Marcis #30 Charger 500/Daytona painted up like a Petty car.    It was a Goodys promotional deal.    The car is now painted up in Winston Cup colors and is in a museum in Winston Salem NC.
