Dash paint

I am wondering about the metal surface behind the pad up near the vin numbers. I have never seen my car completed. The last guy that had the car had carpet covering the metal by the heater vents and vin etc. Is this suposed to be covered by something or is to be painted. My car is being painted Black but the interior will be blue.

My stock interior is red and so is the dash... But then again so was the rest of the car.

In the 69 like yours and mine you want to use what I just used on my steering column and rear panel which is the Mopaint Mopar black swede.

Doesn't look right for a 70. The 70 is smooth. I used SEM matte black and it looks pretty much factory

I was thinking that I would shoot it black, but not glossy more like a semi gloss to keep glare down. that is after I strip half inch thick glue off it that was used to hold carpet down.

Is the mopaint mopar black swede a textured paint?Or was the column textured?
