Looking at the online catalog at Year One & came across these...

Pretty cool idea but expensive at $350 plus you have to paint the housings to match....  :'(

QuoteConvert your dull side marker reflectors to brighter state of the art LEDs. Kits come complete with everything needed for a clean installation. You must paint the housings to match your car, connect the lighting circuit for power and attach a small ground wire. Kit includes:
# Housings
# Lenses
# LED lighting
# Retainers
# Gaskets and mounting hardware

Note: Although 1969 models came with reflectors only this kit will allow you to convert your reflectors into functional LED side markers.

LED69      Side marker LED conversion kit for 1969 Dodge/Plymouth B-body models.      $349.00

Chris' '69 Charger R/T

Rolling_Thunder

the same thing can be done to a stock set up for way below $200 by my figures...     typical Y1 high prices.
1968 Dodge Charger - 6.1L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.55 Sure Grip

2013 Dodge Challenger R/T - 5.7L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.73 Limited Slip

1964 Dodge Polara 500 - 440 / 4-speed / 3.91 Sure Grip

1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye - 340 / A-518 / 3.23 Sure Grip

I know LED is expensive, but how are they suppose to make sales with that price?

Let' see, YO.  350.00 plus probably 75.00 for shipping.  Wow.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Sounds like a government operation: Take a simple idea and complicate it, throw a bunch of money at it, create a bunch of unecessary work and then call it an improvement.

Yearone has always been bad with prices. I haven't gotten one of their catalogs because I'm not gonna pay $5 US for one.

Apparently Charger Specialties is making these for Year One but obviously they're cheaper through CS. They list them at $329 with free shipping, so that will save you a few bucks if you really want them. :shruggy:

I made my own on the Daytona.....just cut a little square in the rear of the reflector housing, then glued a section of a side marker housing from a 70's side marker

Lights up just fine....and you can't tell in the daytime

Yea, that is clever. And I thought his main function here was just to be an ornery SOB. :shruggy: I guess I'm the only one left.

Nacho-RT74

The 69 Daytona's used '70 fenders on the front...but the side marker lights were removed and filled in. The 69 reflectors were installed in the lower valance

And yes...the 68, 69, & 70 Charger fenders were different

Nacho-RT74

gotcha!...

well, I know about everyone being diff, but didn't knwo the sidemarkers were AN EXTRA DIFFERENCE on 69s and 70s

Dumb question. If 68's had functional marker lights, why didnt they put them on 69's?

Okay, maybe two dumb questions. Would rectangular marker lights from some other Mopar work, maybe abody or ebody?

Starting 1968, all cars had to have side markers, so Chrysler thought that they had to be lighted, but in 69, they found a loophole and said they only had to be markers, not lighted (save money I guess). Then in 1970, it was clarified that all cars had to have LIGHTED side markers....

That and the fact that 68's are superior to the 69's  :nana:

Nope..I tried the later "A" body lights...wouldn't fit..that's why I did the bulb trick a few posts back

www.superbrightleds.com  has a plethora of LED's (Do you know what a plethora is Jefe?).  You can make your own setups or replace your existing old bulbs with newer LEDs that pop right in.
