I'm shopping an enclosed car hauler.
I've been scouting Kijiji all across the country (Canada) and have found several interesting units.
The all-aluminum ones are too costly, so I'm limited to a steel and plywood cheapo.
Problem is, I've seen several for around $9500, that are only a year or two old. However, I'm seeing new ones for the same amount.

Does anybody have a trailer like this, and what advise can you offer?

I'm planning on using my gutless '96 Ram 4x4 with a 318 to pull it.

Nice...I emailed them.
I'd prefer a V-nose as they might have a bit of an aerodynamic advantage.
And I'm looking for an escape door over the wheels on the left side.

Magnum,
I have a 28ft V-nose tag along, with escape door.  I ordered the trailer, it is 6" lower than the standard. (The Daytona wing clears by about 4").  I did this to get the minimum wind face I could. The brand I got did not have "ramp-over" as an option, and in order for the car door to be high enough to open through the escape door, I made frames out of 2 x 4, (3 1/2" high), 12" wide so I could get "diamond tread" aluminum, and this raised the car in the trailer.  This also makes hooking up the car with tie-downs MUCH easier.  I would suggest you look at a couple of comparable trailers and get the trailer weight, then run your car across a set fo scales to see just how much load you will be hanging onthe truck.  Besure to include pasenger weight, and "necessities," (like a tool box and/or parts), the weight will add up quick.  Also be sure to install a weight transfer hitch.  I prefer the "old style" Reese hitch with the lever arms, and if you feel the need, this set-up can be equipped with sway bars.  Be sure to get a good brake controller also.  I'm thinking that even if your car is an A-body, that, 24 ft of trailer, and some spares is going to be pushing the towing capacity of your truck.  Good luck.

My advice would be to buy a quality trailer even if it costs a bit more up front. After doing lots of homework I decided on a Vintage Outlaw 26ft enclosed. I purchased it used from a Moparts Member in Indiana and got a good deal. He had allready carpeted the floor and installed checkplate runners. Other upgrades included a 2000w inverter and lighting, both 12v and 120v. There is a breaker box installed with 4 power bars that connects to a plug on the tongue so all you need is a generator or power outlet. The inverter is wired to a deep cell battery that gets charged up through the 7 pin trailer connector....pretty slick.  :icon_smile_big:

This trailer also has built in cabinets (upper & lower) with pot lighting, a 5000lb winch and a 24ft awning. Lots of good stuff...Make sure you buy one with 5200lb axles....many come with 3500 axles and with a b-body you will exceed the trailer GVW. Another brand i would consider is the Classic Dominator....quality wise it's in the same league as the Vintage Outlaw.

Member R2 (Doug) has a 24ft Outlaw and pulls his 3450lb Belvedere all over the place with an 08 Hemi Ram 1/2 ton....no problems.

Have a look on Racing Junk ; lots of descent deals to be had there !  :yesnod:

You better research what your truck can pull so you don't end up being under-powered. It seems to me a 318 is a bit small to be pulling a 26 to 28 foot trailer with a car & any other equipment inside.   :Twocents:

Yeah, I'm actually hedging on the whole trailer idea for now.
My wimpy truck WILL pull my flat-deck trailer across the country, as I've done it several times now.
My Charger is just a shell, so it won't weigh too awful much.
Later this summer, I may buy an enclosed hauler, but I want to save up the purchase price first.
The Mancini trailer was going for $11,000....which works out to be "way too much" in Canadian money.
Here is my flatdeck trailer - with the sideboards installed.
