I've been trying to remove the complete tail light assemblies on the '68 but having no luck! There are nuts all the way around but i can't get to the bolt heads on the top part of the assemblies. Is there a trick to getting the tail lights out?? Didn't seem to complicated but now i've been messing with it for a good 45 minutes and they are still tight as can be in there.

photos, ? with all the studs undone, should come out , seal is probably stuck , be careful not to tear seal if your going to reuse :2thumbs:

Here's some pics...

The nuts with the arrows pointing to them are almost impossible to get to with a wrench behind them., all the others come right off!

And the other side...

Take the nuts off of the tail lights (3/8) and just leave the brackets in place.

Thanks! So just the 5 nuts on the studs is all that comes off? That might make it easier, i had all 5 off but the assemblies were still solid as a rock, what the best way to "persuade" them out if the gasket is stuck?

If the gasket is stuck you can try a heat gun from the backside. Try to get a corner started first and the rest should come out.
Your original gaskets are probably toast.

gaskets were an issue in the past ,
but have seen repops have come out , start a list of things to order,
like these gaskets, your going to ruin them getting them out that way you want forget anything , and store away ready for reassembly , keep list , good reference for what you have ordered,
will stop you purchasing things twice , forgetting that you already bought them

Actually the repop 68 t lamp gasket are not good at all , so save yours if possible.

Yes, they seem way to thick. I actually cut my repop gaskets in half.
Most likely the tail lights leaked in the past and someone caulked them in with clear silicone. spent hours getting a tail light lense off my 72 because of that. :brickwall: :brickwall:
