Rant: For the life of me I can't figure out why these things are so expensive

Roof racks and cargo boxes made by Thule, Packasport and Yakima. The least expensive cargo box that you can get new looks to be the little Thule Sidekick at $240 but typically if you want a decent-sized box you're looking at $400-$800 for two moulded pieces of flimsy ABS. :rotz:

I can see the Packasport costing more because it's made of layered fiberglass like a boat but those are running $700-$900. :o I bet those Packasport boxes must weigh 80 lbs. or so. Why doesn't anyone make these out of carbon fiber?

And if you own a car with no factory rack they really nail you on the price of some of those roof mount systems, more than $200 in most cases for four brackets and two crossbars.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. I feel better now.

Probably because it's a cool sounding name & when displayed in huge letters above the roof of your car, will make everyone think you're THE scheit.              Or something. ::)

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)
