Holly Carburetor, have you used this one?

I've read on here that folks have preferred the Holly double-pumpers, 750 CFM's, on their Chargers. So, I've been doing some searches on the net and have come across this one below:

http://shop.oreillyauto.com/productdetail.aspx?MfrCode=HOL&MfrPartNumber=04779S

Now, when I clicked on the link that says "See all vehicles this product fits," it only includes 1974-1978 Charger. But, I was looking to perhaps use it for my 1969 Dodge Charger with a 383, 4 barrel, BB. If this doesn't fit, then what Holly Double-pumpers is everyone purchasing for their 69' Charger? I'm assuming that I may have to purchase a spacer/adjuster on the intake perhaps in order to get a good fitting?

I realize that particular carb. comes in a high silver and a dull finish, and that there are other 750 CFM carb's. out there, such as the Demons, etc, but I chose this one so that everyone can click on the link to view the particular years to see what I'm saying...But, if anyone has purchased this particular carburetor, is it difficult to keep clean? How did you modify it to make it fit your 69' Charger?

Thank you for any replies,
Aaron

From my experience you will need a spacer to run the DP on a factory manifold, the side linkage interferes with choke well.

If you're planning on buying the 4779S don't pay Oreilly's list price, the same thing is available from Jeg's or Summit for around $500.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Hi there,

Yeah, I was thinking that I would be in need of a spacer, thank you for confirming. I'll be near an Advanced Auto tomorrow so I'll see about getting one. The intake manifold that I have is an Edelbrock Performer RPM # 7186, so hopefully it should fit as well even though its not stock either. I agree, that price was too high but thank you again for the info!
High regards,
Aaron

INMO a 750 dp'er is too much carb for a stock 383.  ;)

:iagree: with Ron but I gave up preaching "smaller is better" a long time ago. A 650 is the most I would use. The need for a spacer was referring to a stock manifold, with aftermarket it might fit without one.

Though I've yet to run a DP yet, on my '69 that I had, I put a #3310 on it with the electric choke conversion, it would not fit on the factory intake, the linkages for the choke and then some was hitting the intake, I had to run a 1" spacer for it to fit on there..... Later on I put a Speed Demon carb on it, same thing, so I just reused the spacer, and no other problems as far as carb/intake clearances go. I also used a 14"x3" drop base air cleaner.... I also manged to put a standard socket (standard depth, not deep well) on the top of the air cleaner around the edge of the air cleaner to check for hood clearance and slowly closed the hood, and what do you know, it cleared. Hope this helps some. On my '72 I will be using a Quick Fuel carb rated at 950.
