Crazy '70s custom '69 Charger...

With the utmost respect to the artist and the builder-- it's beyond time to DA sand the green Hawaiian lagoon/skyline away--Removing my mom's living room from the interior is needed too.

I know, I know, pot meet kettle.  :icon_smile_blackeye:

Fo' Shizzle.

captnsim

I like those Kelly Charger tires...  :yesnod:

TheGhost

Lose the grill, interior, and possibly the sidepipes (unless it's easy to remove the molding), and keep the rest as it is.  It'd be something different to see at shows.  Stock Chargers are cool, but I enjoy seeing the custom ones once in a while.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

DON'T YOU KIDS GET IT, IT HAS BEEN PERSONLIZED (not to my taste) TO THE OWNERS TASTE, THIS IS AMERICA, I DON'T REMEMBER EVER SEEING AN "01" ON THE SIDES OF A NEW '69 CHARGER!!!

I absolutely get it.  I also get the part where he has decided his taste his so good that the car is worth 40k.  My taste says it isn't worth that and that it looks hell.  The nice part about America is that I am as free to say that as he was to booger the car up in the first place.  Now if it were listed for half that much so that you could reasonably afford to return to stock or wreck it all over again with your own personal vision then I might be less critical.  I've said before that car makers employ the finest stylists with talent and training to come up with designs that will score well in the sales race.  Sometimes they strike out and sometimes its a homerun and most poeple would agree that the 2nd gen Charger was a bottom of the ninth-bases loaded-game winning dinger at the World Series.  Now some guy decides his personal vision supercedes that .  Cool.  As you say, its America and we have that right and I support that right.  But a long distance foul ball while it may still be a strong hit, still hasn't really gone anywhere and I'm not even sure this one would be a foul ball.  Maybe but  :eek2:
Oh, and I'm not all that crazy about GL's either but I support anybodys right to do one.  At least they are mainly limited to paint, decals, and a grotesque push bar.  :Twocents: :Twocents: :Twocents: :Twocents: :Twocents: (you got a whole dime on that one)

I'm not likin' this car at all but, back in the day Chargers were everywere and customizing was in, so doing something different was popular.  Just like building a '32 Ford street rod.  Someone that was into seeing those stock would frown upon that.  I will say, "shizzle" does fit the picture well!  Someday in the futere they will think what we are doing to these cars today are nasty.  Example= Ricky Ricardo bucket seats, CD players, food processor looking rims, 5.7 Hemi's, 6-speed trans, etc.

Ghoste

I agree with you 100% and in the 70's I was into murals and sidepipes myself and Centerline wheels in the 80's, Pro Street in the 90's and now we have restomods.  It always comes back to stock though doesn't it?

68beepbeep

Yes it does.  It is really hard to try to top Mopar styling of this vintage, though people do try?
I do like the Dukes Charger but, there's so many out there, never liked the brush bar or those crappy rims. :Twocents: :Twocents: :Twocents:

I do agree, that price is "wackadoddle"

Charger_Fan

It would be interesting to see the fender tag, just to picture what it looked like originally.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I just got this posting sent to me and its hilarious how much attention it has gotten.

We (Classical Gas Motors) are the owners of this car.  Whether its your taste or not is your opinion.  I (owners son) personally don't care for it.

Its what it is that is important.  Its not a general lee or a hemi car, its a piece of car customization from history.

Its not meant to insult Chargers at all, just a cool example of the evolution of car customs over time.  The car even had a place to put a black and white TV in the center console talk about innovative.  While many of you think destroying it would "put it out of its misery" I think destroying it would kill an interesting piece of art history.

I think it is a window into the car customization of the '70s. I don't think it is insulting Chargers, just most of the guys on this board don't care for it. The car is very interesting, and while I don't 100% care for it myself, I agree killing it would be bad.    (Maybe return the interior to normal. :nana:)
Welcome to the site ClassicalGas! :coolgleamA:

Gees, another thread of the custom charger. Leave the car as it is I say. They were popular back in the day before many of you/us were even thought of or at least had no idea what custom builds were.
It would be like taking the Dick Landy chargers and putting them back to stock forum along with every freakin' general lee wannabe', not gonna happen, get my drift?

Mark
Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.

Ghoste

I stand by my statements.  I never suggested killing it but I would immediately return it to stock which to the current owner could be considered killing it in their eyes.  In any case, my opinions about the car should be clear enough to speak for themselves and I'll leave it at that.
I do wish you the best in finding it a new home though.

See, this happens a lot on the car forums. Someone finds an oddball car, posts about it, then others post about what's wrong with it, or how ugly they think it is, & then the owner shows up.

I remember seeing that car a few years ago & liked it. Probably because my Dad used to take me to the New York Custom Car Show in NYC every year in the late 60's & early 70's. I have old poloroids I'll have to dig up & scan of a few cars like this. One I can think of is a '69 Road Runner with murals on it & lots of chrome.

If I had the chance & could afford to buy a car like the green Charger, I might. I think it's pretty cool, but the seat covers made from old Elvis paintings would probably get new covers on them.   :D

I have a bunch of other pictures of the car I will have to dig up and post.

Pictures of the car signed by George Barris and others by Tommy Chong.

So it's a cool car that's dressed up ugly.  So what?

Leaving it that way does not rob the Mopar hobby of any more than a perfectly restored Charger R/T that spends 363 days a year closed up in a garage.

It's a bit of a time capsule.  I say leave it as-is.

That VIN tag says "made in Mexico". No Offense. :smilielol:

hahaha
in truth it's up to the new owner whether it stays ugly custom or goes a different path. the problem here is, the asking price of the current owners only justifies leaving it as is, if you paid that sticker shock price, and THEN restored it back to stock, you'd probably lay claim to having the most expensively restored plain 440 R/T automatic in america

I would love to see those pictures of the N.Y. coliseum shows, I used to go to them. I worked for ACME plating in Stamford CT. from the mid '70s to 2001 and back in the day I chromed so many cars out for people.  That is what was in then.  Rods, customs, vans, and performance cars(muscle cars). It was a wild time to live!~Steve~

ClassicalGas

There has been alot of talk about the asking price of the car.

We our hobbyists that started a classic car sales company.  We have a website with a ton of cars on it and we wanted to show the world this charger.

If we were wanted to sell it fast the price would be much less.  We just wanted a way to show the car and putting it on our website was the best way.

Havent you ever had a car that you werent wanting to sell but would still let go if someone walked up and said they would give you $40,000 for it?

Yep! If someone offered mt $40K, I'd sell in two seconds. :icon_smile_tongue:
