The same primary car was used in both movies and it is a known entity.  There was a second one used in Grafitti for the rollover.  I don't think it belongs to a celebrity but I could be wrong, I do know that the car is not missing and appears at a show or in a magazine from time to time.  I'm sure they would be surprised at this site to find out its for sale.

tan top

i'm probably wrong on this , but i think i remember reading about there was three cars & they were all built by a famous at the time custom builder & were not like typical movie cars ..ie all show & no go  :yesnod: they had all good parts , even rear discs ...& painted metal flake blue ..i think :scratchchin:  when the director saw these cars ..said they were too good & not into fitting of the film ..so had them all painted with grey primer ... to  look more back yard built :yesnod: ... might of got some details wrong  as it was some years ago i read this , can't even think where now ... also at the end of the two lane black top ,  they had shot an different ending or was going to film one of the chebby crashing  :scratchchin: :popcrn:  ..theres a web site with some two lane black stuff on it also .with the old lakeland race way as it is today

1955 Chevy 150 sedans used in both movies

good read

QuoteThe story of the American Graffiti '55 Chevy began in 1970 when three 1955 Chevy 150 sedans were built for the 1971 movie Two-Lane Blacktop by Richard Ruth of Competition Engineering in Sunland, California. Ruth patterned the cars after his own big-block '55 Chevy street racer after Two-Lane Blacktop/American Graffiti/Star Wars producer Gary Kurtz went street racing with Ruth while preparing for Two-Lane Blacktop. After that evening, Kurtz ordered two cars just like Ruth's '55 and a third '55 to be used as a stunt car. While Ruth was building the '55s, the studio arranged for General Motors to deliver three big block crate motors to his shop. One of the '55s received a leftover 1969 L-88 427 Chevy big block while the other two were equipped with the new 454s. Ruth installed a Weiand tunnel ram with dual Holleys on the two main cars, and a single four barrel on the stunt car. The stunt car had a full rollcage and was equipped with a Ruth-designed right and left braking system so it could be intentionally thrown into a skid and rolled over for a scheduled rollover scene. Ruth delivered all three cars to the studio painted powder blue, but the studio had them finished with a gray primer appearance to fit the persona of the drag racers played by James Taylor and Dennis Wilson.

Since were on 55 chebby's.  Down the road from me sat a 2dr 55 sport coupe sitting outside for decades.  I stopped by the house last week to see if it was for sale as the owner of the house had passed away.  He had a 55 nomad in the garage since he bought it new.  I used to swing by in my 57 Nomad back in 1975 when I had mine and we became friends.  Anyway, finally someone was at the house as I saw the garage door open.  I met a cousin that was fixing the place for sale.  I asked about the 55.  The shell was on the ground and the frame complete next to it.  He said it's all for sale.  He said they sold the 55 Nomad to a family friend but he paid a fair price they didn't give it to him.  The 55 coupe was all there 100% complete.  It had a power front seat and power windows and tinted glass.  The original rebuilt 265 was in the garage..  There were enough 55 parts above the garage to make another 55. I called a friend of mine on the spot and the 2 talked.  Finally the guy says 1,500.00 for everything.  I was really excited for my friend.  He told me the next day a buddy of his said he would give him a grand for the front seat.  Someone else wanted the 265ci engine, and he was just going to use some of the parts for his 55 at home.  I asked him to do me the same and find me a home with 69 Charger cars and parts hanging around.  There are still deals out there.  He gave me 100.00 to take the wife out for dinner.  Were going out , but the 100.00 is going towards Charger parts. :D
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

That's pretty cool. At least all that stuff didn't end up on the back of a roll-off, headed toward a crusher.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Yeah, he told me today a friend is giving him 2,500 for the body plus a harley sportster that he said someone else will give him 3,500 for.  Almost made me wish I took it, but I couldn't do that to a friend.  Just as he was making a few bucks on the car, his dog got sick this weekend and it cost them 4,000.00 in treatment.  Easy come, easy go.  Don't it always work out that way?

warren oates, heh, they made a fan out of him
I like that part where he gives that cowboy business man who was hitchhiking or whatever a ride, and then at the next gas station, that guy bolts out of the car and runs across the highway to get away from warren,
