I really have not made any progress on the Charger I bought 5 years ago...long story....anyway with renewed interest I put it up on stands and was poking around. On the passenger side exhaust manifold there is a weighted, round piece that has a coil spring on the back side and on the opposite side a small return spring? I'm a newb at this, what is/was this piece supposed to do and is it on the hi-perf exhaust manifolds or just the grocery-getter. Seems to be restrictive.

That is a heat riser...it's designed to trap exhaust in the manifolds to allow for a quicker warmup. The spring is the thermostat...if it's functioning properly the valve will open. If it's not working properly it will create an overheating issue.

Thanks,

Spring (tstat) is broken, whole weight rotates 360. Just getting car running for now, suggestions?

Just wire it up in the open position for now. You can replace the spring later or just remove the flapper valve and weld up the holes in the manifold.

Or another option on plugging the holes it to tap them for I believe it was 1/8 pipe and use a pipe plug with a female allen head style, it looks pretty clean.
