70-71 Barracudas?

You say original poster never made it clear if 70 or 71. If you read again I did specify 71. You seemed to imply year did not matter but if it was a Hemi or not seemed to make the differance. Even the girl knew more then you did LEON.

My patience may have paid off. Someone I know, knows a lady looking to sell her 'Cuda. I still haven't been able to go look at it but it is a 70 or 71. I'm supposed to have a price from her this weekend. The cars were her husbands, the barracuda is more of a project and they have a blown 69 charger race car (I'll get pics of both) Are there any parts I should look for on this car? Anything extremely expensive I should make sure it has? I'm guessing I should make sure the grill is in good shape, maybe tail lights?

Either year is cool, but a '71 is my favorite of the two & still the hardest to get parts for. The sheet metal is easier to get than it used to be, but the lower front valance for the '71 is still not being made, & crusty used ones still get big money. The '71 grille is probably the most important part, & the aftermarket one from Premiere Plastics has quality issues "IF" you can get it without being ripped off. (I bought one & know first hand) Used grilles that need work are over $1000 & the mint ones are over $2500 or so. All the trim on the grille is being reproduced, but the 6 smaller inserts I am not sure about.

The '70 grilles are available from another company that has a decent reputation, but I haven't seen them in person.

I don't know what model/engine combo it is yet so it could be a /6 barracuda or a 'Cuda. Frankly I don't really care though. I really hope I'm able to pick it up. Its been long enough to not have a mopar project. I've settled into school and I'm ready for a mopar again.

Look in the typical Mopar rust locations, like the floors, trunk, quarters, frame rails, window channels, rockers, & lower doors. The other spots on the E-Bodies to look at seem to be the cowl & firewall areas, as well as the inner fenders where the hood hinges are.

As for an update, I talked with a local guy who had went to look at the cars around a year ago. The barracuda was a pretty disassembled project '69 fastback. They wanted 30k for the barracuda and 70k for the '69 charger race car... I still haven't heard back from them personally so that may change, I might take a look at them for pictures etc...they live really close to me.

I should have known better...I was hoping I had lucked into getting a 70-71 cuda for cheap haha

Not an argument just a misunderstanding and since the part in question was kind of an important detail it was necessary to hash it out.  Its all good now. 
I wonder if their prices have changed on those cars in the new economy?

The 71 Cuda will have the vented fenders, The 71 Chessegrater grill hard to find unbroken & expensive to replace. LEON.

All Cudas had the gilled fenders, regular Barracudas do not.  You may be thinking of the flared wheelwell fenders that went on the Hemi cars and TA cars.

where are you getting your info? 90% of real Cudas in existence do not have gilled fenders ,there are bunch of resto-mods with aftermarket gilled fenders,but most Cudas don't have gilled fenders

All actual 1971 Cuda's no matter what engine, should have gilled fenders. The reason that alot of the "Resto-Mods" have aftermarket gills is because they have been made from regular Barracuda's.

     and on another note,can't speak for the hemi cars,but not all  T/A cars  had  the "rolled-lip fenders'',as the tires were E-60's,they probably thought they would'nt hit,and since they were only made for 5 weeks,since it was late into the run of them,they most likely just did the late ones.

I Restored a original Black T/A & it needed a Fender replaced. I carefully checked for a rolled lip & did not see any so replaced with a regular fender. LEON.
