I wish I could tell you my drive-in story about Sherry Robinson in the back of my TC3 from the mid 80's.....  :D

This story sounds as if it could become very fishy.......

Cool car show idea. I used to really like going to the drive ins as a kid, then when I was older with my own car & girlfriend.  :D

PT posted links I was almost going to post myself.

There's an abandoned drive in theater right here in Newburgh, NY that almost reopened once. It was already closed when I moved here in 1989, but in the early 90's someone in NJ was repairing the building where the concession stand & projector was. The steel framing for the screen is still there too. The plan was to also have flea markets in the daytime on the weekends, but they never got permission from the town to do it.

Turns out that the drive in is adjacent to a very upscale neighborhood that overlooks the Hudson River, & the people there freaked out over the idea of flea marketeers in their backyards. The property owner said the only way he could make the project work & be profitable in the long run, was to have the additional income from the flea market. It went back & forth at town meetings, but the owner died during that time & the plan died with him.

The property is a huge, overgrown, eyesore on the main road (NYS Rte 9W) that has been that way for 20 years that I am aware of. I don't understand how the local residents think that a daytime flea market on the weekend is any worse than the dumpy, craphole welfare motels near the drive in, that have the police there on a regular basis. Makes sense to me to fix it up, show movies & have the flea markets.

So Khyron, make sure you post the car show info right here on the forum. Something like that would be a nice overnight family trip.  :2thumbs:

I know the drive-in in Malta well. I remember when my daddyd used to take me to the Dix drive-in in Glens Falls when I was a kid. We had a 69 Belvedere station wagon that used to be an old police car.  Still had the spotlight on the driver's side and everything.
Out of curiosity, are they still going to hold the crusie-ins at Guptill's Arena this year?  I know last year there was some scuttlebutt that they might put an end to them due to decreasing numbers.  I didn't see that myself, but with money what it is, you never know...

That sounds like a cool time. Let us know how it works out.

There used to be a drive-in about 2 miles down the road from us. It closed down about 5 years ago. The owner sold the property to a developer who built houses there. We have a friends who bought a house in the new development. We only went a few times to the movies there.

When I was a kid, my parents used to take us to a drive-in called the Twin 100's I think. :scratchchin: We had a Chevy station wagon and me and my sisters would sit on the roof and watch the movies. When we fell asleep, my parents would lay us down in the back and drive home. Good memories. :icon_smile_big:
