Forgotten Mopars -- anymore pictures?

Lol. There are lots of I spys in that pic. That is indeed a 65 wagon, just so happens to be the one that I have and will probably end up parting out as no one seems to want it. To bad too. It's a cool car. Here are a few pics of it.

I found this one,apparently it has been sitting for 10 years. Owner won't sell, going to restore it someday.

Agreed. But the only wagon only things that are missing are the roof rack and the piece of trim on the tail gate. The tail lights are junk, but I was lucky enough to score a VERY nice set. So it would be a reletively easy car. The rest is all just 65 coronet 4 door stuff. I even still have the steering wheel button/ring. It is a complete 318 car.

It's a damn cool wagon! It's very sad for the Mopar population not to realize the value of restoring it!

Make an offer. I just hate to see it parted out. I decided I was going to pull the 8 3/4 out of it and use in an A-body. That's about the only thing it's really worth to me. I was hoping to MAYBE trade it for an A-body. But no one seems to want it. It's safe where it's at till someone does. At one time, I planed on painting it silver with a red stripe in the chrome and red interior. I wanted Torque thrusts on the front and wide steelies on the rear. Put early buckets with no head rests and some five point harnesses with a 4 point cage and the 65 S/S hood scoop. Then put a trailer hitch on it and top the real race car. But that was just a dream. I wish it was a few years newer. If it was a 68 or 70 B-body.  Oh man. I would love it.

I WILL NOT LET THE CAR GO TO THE SCRAP YARD!!! Like I said. The only thing I really wanted was the rear end. I know that this is one rare car. just not desirable.

Hmm. It's a thought, it is allot warmer there than here. I tried to get Steve to come look at it when they came and bought the 500 from us. But they were in a hurry.

Jeremy, here's a dumb, but serious question for you ...why are all these desert cars so rusty? Some have minor rot holes (which I suspect is from poor drainage), but why all the surface rust? Many of them have very bad surface rust on nearly all panels...including the sides!

In Michigan, cars rust from the inside out, and we don't see cars in junkyards older than 25 years around here.

your cars have salt and moisture carried into them by your shoes is why they rust from the inside out, down here its strickly sun beating the paint down till its bare metal then the rain we get once in a while does the surface in

Good question.

Here is my theory. Most of these cars sit in the desert with no shade around. So they are literally baking in the sun day in and day out. So it sort of cooks the paint off. Ad in the wind mixed with sand, sometimes so fast that it picks the sand up and you can't see anything, kind of like a white out in the winter. So the paint gets sand blasted. Then you have the rain sometimes that gets on the bare metal and it bakes into it and causes it to rust. Now the surface looks really pitted, but if you just rub it with sand paper, it comes right off. As far as why some of them have rusted lower 1/4's and such, some of these cars are literally half full of sand. So when it rains, the moister gets in the car and just sits there and rots. Some of these cars have so much sand around them that they are hard to move.  

I wish I had pictures, but we picked up a real nice 69 runner. The chrome looked like aluminum because the chrome had been baked and blasted off. It was the weirdest thing I have ever seen when it comes to chrome.

You figure, it hits over 120F in the summer out there sometimes. There is nothing to protect the cars. So that is my theory. How true it is,

Your sand blast theory works for me.....once the paint dies from sun, the sand and wind deteriorates it to bare metal.

Hmm. It's a thought, it is allot warmer there than here. I tried to get Steve to come look at it when they came and bought the 500 from us. But they were in a hurry.

In a hurry?? Hahaha.. We had just drove from 70 + degrees in Vegas to below the mercury's limits in a pair of shorts and sneakers. Then after loading we still had to get back to the warm part of the west and get our blood moving again...

I would love to do a wagon. And you know the 65' IS my car of choice.


By the way. I think Mike is going to part out what is left of the 500 we bought from you guys...  He's been trying to get me to come get it to build a racer, but I just can't do anything right now.. Otherwise my truck and trailer would be headed to Vegas.....
