HEMI 68 CHARGER ON MOPARTS, ANYONE KNOW THIS CHARGER?

Thanks for posting the link.. This is only the second '68 Hemi Charger R/T I've seen that doesn't have the heater hose support bracket over the passenger side shock tower. Mine is the other one.. Weird how most '68 Hemi b-bodies got it, but some didn't. One has to recall that in '68, the heater hose routing was over the valve cover for both a/c and non-a/c cars. So, it doesn't surprise me that some hemi '68 b-bodies didn't get the support bracket attached to the inner passenger fender panel above the shock tower. For me personally, this validates as well the use of the standard B/RB non-a/c water pump pulley and single groove alternator pulley.

I believe the heater hose routing is dependent on build date the later cars got the bracket and earlier ones didn't and also if they were built in the Hamtramck Dodge Main Plant or St Louis. Mine is a Hamtramck late May build and has the bracket.

Also notice there is no viscous fan and mine has
never had the fan clutch either.

Also notice the alternator, a single groove as mine is too.

The Neg cable goes to the water pump but mine goes to the cyl head.

I can't remember if it has the green emission valve which mine has never had.

Troy, we'll stay with the Charger com on this.  The strap is what I'm referring to as I have seen it on early 68 HEMI cars as well as with the aluminum tie straps. Not that all of these cars were day one original as this one is supposed to be.

I couldn't agree with you more............ Some people in their attempts to make things "correct", end up putting something on that particular car that wasn't there to begin with. In my case, there's no hole for the attach screw for the support bracket. After dipping the car, if there was any filler, it would have come out. Hence, my car didn't get one. I'll use a couple of aluminum straps. Also, I've seen a lot of auto cars that have the small hold-down clamp over the tranny cooling line that goes up and over the radiator core support by the battery. Again, my car has never had a hole there, hence, no hold-down clamp.

Troy, the rules for 68 and older MOPARS were written years ago by the 69 and newer crowd as they didn't know the difference between the earlier data plates and under the hood items. As the 68 and earlier Supercars became as valued as the later cars the differences are beginning to become noted but not written in stone. I was once told my Charger was fake by a very noted Wing car Guru because of the order number and data plate not matching the VIN, but he had only owned 69 and newer MOPARS. It was only within the last few years that the Data Plate on 68 and earlier cars was correctly decoded....can't imagine how many incorrectly detailed 68 engine compartments are out there that look more like a 69 or newer..........

Haven't found the pics yet but will keep looking.

Troy, I found some pics of the 2004 MOPAR Nationals in Columbus and the 68 Charger is in the Survivor Tent! I only have 3 shots that survived the hurricane season so hopefully someone on here will go through their 04 NATS Photos and see if they got some good pics. Now i will have to figure out how to use this new scanner thing the wife bought and see if they can be copied for the site.............

Steve was that car in the "Charger" Tent in 04 or was it in the survivor tent? I know I don't take many pics of non aero cars at many of the shows, but at the year it was the tribute to the Charger I took quite a few of other cars too.

Hi Danny, it was in the Survivor Tent display. I wish I had all the pics but when we packed everything up for one of the Hurricanes a lot of my pics were lost. I now have a digital and can save all my pics on line...........Hope you took some pics of this HEMI Charger!

Hi guys here the sister car to the white 4 door hemi both were out of Wichita Ks red one was owned by Pappy Cline and the white car was owned by Dave Betthauser he was second owner.
Wichita was great town back in the 60s and 70s to see cars like those roaming the street !!!

Thanks Steve... Clear as water now............ I have the proper water pump pulley now. I traded the '69-'71 to the gent I got the '68 from for two proper ones. As it turns out, my '70 six pack v-code Charger R/T is missing its pulley as well... Luckily, it's the same thing.........

Now, is that fan a clutch style fan or non-clutch?  My next hurdle will be the high-pressure power steering hose........

Another interesting note, this survivor has the hold-down clamp for the tranmission cooling line going over the core support........... Mine doesn't and never had it....

Again, also, looks as if this red survivor doesn't have the heater hose support bracket over the passenger shock tower...............

Troy, Good luck finding anyone really into restoring HEMI engines  willing to accept this idea that a HEMI car had no viscous clutch for the fan. This is the first survivor I've gotten pictures & I have seen other 68 HEMI Chargers with the same set up but everyone I talk to dismisses it immediately as having been changed, but WHY? seems harder to find a fan and belt set up than to just replace the clutch if it failed??? If I ever need to remove the fan on my Charger I'll try to find the numbers for you.
