I said 3 grand and I'm on my way. No answer yet, but I wanted to ask who has one here and what info. you may have on them, as in rare or?
Would I flip it, don't know yet.
Wife says keep it and get it running. Hmmmm???

Just got home from viewing car. Guy called and said now or never, weirdo'. Car is complete, non running and no title. Hasn't been run since 1997 or so.

He seen my camera and asked why, I said for my personal reasons, I won't share them, he said no way either way, no pictures. He said he has people enter his property and sell stuff on eBay and CraigsList all the time.
He also told me he has many shoot guns ready. Sad how people still get ripped off and are so damn period.

So, no deal as of yet anyways, I gave him till this weekend to make up his mind on my price.

I would find out what's up with the title. Why wouldn't it have one? Probably a lien or a title jumper somewhere along the line  If he says yes to your price I would run a title search on it. If he don't want you too....yeah - RUN.

I called the guy and asked him how can I go about getting the title. Heres the funny part, he said he can get one for 2 grand. I said I can get one for $150.00 after 90 days.
He said it was dropped off to him just as I see it years ago. He said it was a divorce situation. Engine code on air cleaner read 400 Cu. in.

Not sure now what to do, maybe walk away.

Yeah they did!! I owned a cherry '81 T/A back in the day with a 5.0 in it. The car was amazing, and I wish I had kept it..

I had a '79 with the Olds 403 and back in the day I thought it was fast as lightning.

You had a 81 with a 5.0L. Fairly rare car as all Trans Ams with Chevy 305 5.0L's were built in Canada, and if I am not mistaken all 4spd. cars too.

All US automatic cars got the 4.9L 301 engine. The only option was Turbo or carburated. Not much of a choice since both were junk.

I also had a 79 Oldsmobird with the 403. I wish I had that one back.

Trans Am guys still bitch when you put a Chevy in a Bird now. Personally I have a SBC 350 in my Bird and I like it. Parts are next to nothing and it runs very strong. But I still catch stuff from Pontiac enthusiast.

TO clear some stuff up on the Ponitac 350..In 1968 the 326 was replaced by the 350, which used a 3.875 in bore and 3.75 in stroke for a total displacement of 353.79 cu in although it was still called a 350 (5.7 L).


Chevrolet 350 V8 The engine's physical dimensions (oversquare 4.00-inch bore and 3.48-inch stroke, 102 mm by 88 mm)

The Buick 350 V8 had a 3.80 in bore (like the 231) and retained the 3.85 in stroke of the 340. It was introduced in 1968 and produced through 1980.

The major differences of the Buick 350 when compared to other GM V8's are deep skirt block construction, higher nickel-content cast iron, external oil pump, under square bore sizing, 3.0" crank main journals, and 6.5" connecting rods..The Buick 350 also had the longest stroke and is significantly wider that the Chevrolet 350, Oldsmobile 350 or Pontiac 350...


Now, onto the Oldsmobile 350...Produced from 1968 through 1980, the Rocket 350 was entirely different from the other GM divisions' 350's. It used a 4.057 in (103 mm) bore and Oldsmobile small-block standard 3.385 in (86 mm) stroke for 350 cubic inches (5.7 Litre)

I'm restoring a 72 Pontiac T/A and if you can get a rust free real 72 T/A for 5,000 buy it! Only 1286 T/A built in 72 and less then 1/3 are blue. In 78 they would build more then 1286 in a week! Note a 72 T/A would have a 455 H.O. not a 400. Good luck!

I have a logical argument for the statement of big block and small block when relating to Pontiac. They never had a block that differed in external dimension other than the tall and short deck. The 421 and 428 were large journal compared to the others comparatively small journal, but the block dimension was still the same. With that being said; is the Pontiac block/motor the size comparable of other manufacturers big blocks or small blocks? The motors my older brother owned when I was a kid were the same size as the ford and Chevy big blocks of the day, that he owned at the same time. I've found a few web sites that list dimensions of many motors as well, and the Pontiac is definitely in line with the big blocks of all three (Mopar non-hemi,Chevy,Ford). The weight is also approximately the same for Pontiac, Chevy, and Ford. They didn't have a two block sizes, but the one they had was definitely a big block when compared to the other manufactures IMO

I had a 80 Turbo Trans Am Pace Car.  That was one awesome car.  That thing stuck to the road like it was welded down to the pavement.  It had the funky 3 lamps across the hood as the turbo wound up.  Ha ha.  A friend beat me in his 81 Z/28 in a highway race and I said I wasn't even on it.  He started laughing saying  " I saw those 3 stupid lamps lit up across the hood " . Guilty.

My truck isn't a camper special. It is just an Adventurer club cab. There are some pics of it in this thread. It is a workhorse, not show pony. BTW: It has a '78 grill in it.
