ammeter pegs out

was wondering if anybody would know why my amp meter would peg out.already changed voltage regulator.car is still running points distrbutor

Have you changed out the alternator? The wrong amperage can do that.....been there done that

took the alternator off a 69 road runner.

Is it a dual field alternator hooked to single field wiring?

Hi,
When my ammeter did strange things it was the alternator regulator (relay) who was the bandit.
