I have a 1968 Dodge Charger 318 Sublime Green, my daily driver for 4 years. Interior is in o.k. shape with a decent paint job, dual 3in exhaust with a nice bumble bee stripe, the car i might trade for is a 1968 Cornet superbee clone, i think it used to be a R/T but not sure yet. Its completely restored with a 450hp 440 and a nice posi, my car has neither of those. The superbee clone is by far a better resto, there is nothing like a charger i know. My first car is a charger and i will always get another one later. what you guys think?

I have a soft spot for 68 Coronet's as that was my first mopar. And the allure of a 440 can be strong. But it would have to be a really clean Coronet before I'd trade a 68 driver Charger for it...Post some pics if you can, get the vin and fender tag info for the Coronet...So we can better judge.

here is a pic before my bumble bee stripe on my car, This is also my first car i forgot to say had it since 12 now a freshman in college, rebuilt and painted myself. took it to prom and all the young stuff, cops know me pretty well up here  :icon_smile_big: but i figured i will take out the cluster, steering wheel and gas cap and shifter. It may sound stupid but i feel its like the soul of my car, and i kind of always want it with me so im going to switch it out with the other car if i get it.

Just put a 440 and suregrip in the Charger.  :yesnod:  I would rather add more power to a better car than take a lesser car (even if it's in better condition) with more power.   :yesnod:

i wish it was that simple, but there is no way i can afford to put a 440 and a suregrip in it. It would take me forever to make that much money  :rotz: My dad ment this to be a investment for the future, i was supposed to sell it so i can flip my first house with my dad, once my credit goes up of course. So i was thinking might as well switch it up while i still have a charger. I know that i will do good in a house flip, my dad never loses money really, not even in todays market. I would probably buy a 68 charger r/t when im finished so i can restore it. My dad wanted me to earn my car rather then just receive a car, so i spent the next two years restoring it. i probably will regret it, like i said there is no other car in the world like it, there unique and so rare. And you guys have also been great helping me out on all of its old problems i could never figure out, you guys have been great. But since i know im going to lose the car anyways i thought i might as well trade, but at least keep my cluster, steering wheel, and shifter, and gas cap. And if this house flip works out, who can really say your fist car a dodge charger gave you a head start in life to success. thats the way i thought of it.

i like coronets  :yesnod:  , but would not swap a second generation for one ..nobody is going to clone a superbee out of a R/T ...well i would be shocked if it was  :yesnod:  keep the charger dude

Well, the question here is this, which car do you like more?

JMF

Is it a straight swap or will you be paying them cash as well? Or are they giving you cash?

Which in my opinion would be the Charger.  Again, just my opinion, but I'd rather have a real Charger than a cloned Super Bee.

Old Moparz

Two things come to mind.

The first, is to verify which model the Coronet is before you consider this swap any further. It does sound very unlikely that someone would turn a R/T into a Super Bee, but odd things happen all the time, especially if it was done before the car was valuable. I love Chargers, but a real Coronet R/T might be more desirable than a 318 Charger is. It could also be more valuable if the money part has any importance to you. If you have access to the VIN, you can research it & let that help you make a decision.

The second thing, is you seem attached to the Charger. You've had it since you were 12 & put a lot of effort into fixing it, so parting with it will not only be hard, but also give you a chance to feel a lot of regret later. I have 6 old cars, but only 1 of them is a keeper, my '69 Satellite convertible. I've had it since 1984, made a 2000 mile trip in it with my wife (my girlfriend at the time) in 1985, & my daughter got her first ragtop ride when she was 3 in it & loves it. The other cars all have a price under the right circumstances, but the Satellite has too many memories.

I can say from experience you will regret selling your first car, I certainly do, I had a 1965 Mustang Fastback that I got at 14, it was my first restoration project, it took 2 years to finish it, but it was worth it, I loved that car, but as it always goes, lots of miles and wear and tear it needed to be gone through again, and it wasn't in the cards at that time so it got sold, I had a chebby in the transition from Ford to Mopar, I love my Charger, it is 10 times the car the Mustang was, but you just can't replace the feeling of your first car, it is hard to explain but its something special.  :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

if someone REALLY REALLY wants to trade with you....they probably know they're getting the better end of the deal.

I agree with what is being said about it being your first car. As oldMoparz stated, memories also are a big factor when deciding to sell a car. You went to the prom in that car etc, so I would keep it for these two reasons.

If the coronet is restored, it might be worth the trade if you plan on selling it.

Sounds as though you've made up your mind. But it would be nice for us to see photos of the Coronet and have more details on it. :Twocents:

Your Charger doesn't look that bad off. The one thing about owning these cars is the fact that you own a Charger. The hard parts done (finding one that is), you can take your time on the rest and do it up how you want it. As far as the Coronet, I traded a 68 Coronet 500 and $2K for a 68 Charger 15 years ago an was happy as could be.

wow, went to bed then found i have a bunch of responses  :icon_smile_big: makes me happy that so many people want to help me out. Since so many people like my charger i just figured i would keep it, i should probably convince my dad also that i dont want to sell it. Like i said there is no other car like the charger, went through hell and back tring to get it too. Bought it for 800 when i was 12, been sittin in someones yard for a decade, got a bill of sale but never tried to register it. It was not until i painted it that i registered it and found that it was stolen. I thought i was on overhaulin or something hahah. But they took my car, but the police allowed me to strip anything i restored. striped the whole interior and exterior in little over an hour, never worked so fast. Original owner was a drug dealer that died in prison i found out, and he owned some people money so they took it, and then they left it. It will take me along time to make this car the way i want it, but i guess it will be worth it.

forgot to say i got it back by paying the 2700 in impound fees
