64 GTO CONV we frame off , two qtrs , outer WH and repaired right cowl wreck damage , full floor and MANY  hours of blocking . Car came out of booth super slick ( thanks to an $ 80,000 spray booth ) we are now dry -color sanding with 1500 and buffing it out , this old car looks smokin . For the record , 3 coats of base , sanded third coat with 800 , two more coats of base and three coats of clear , then as mentioned dry color sanding with D/A 1500 grit . If you never tried it , it is like discovering fire for first time !!!

Daytonalo, when I get a Charger, can I trade some "gas mileage" work on your Diesel for a restoration to my car? :D :D
Pretty sweet paint job man. :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

My favorite color of all time is a 1998 Ford color-Moonlight Blue Mist Metallic. :2thumbs:
It is an amazing color. :drool5: :drool5: :drool5:

Nice paint. What are you doing with the front core support?

My job entailed installing body on donor frame , metal work , body work and paint and hand it back to him . The owner is a tight wad so he is going to attempt to finish car including Firwall and removing body to install on orig frame .

Thanks for offer but I get 22 mpg on highway , 650 ft lbs @ rear wheels and tows 13 k . Raced an Audi TT stoplight to stoplight three times , he never got passed me !

I shoot 3-4 coats of base, wetsand with 1000 grit, then 1 medium wet coat then follow with clear,800 is a bit rough especially when doing light metallic colors :Twocents:

thats ok if your still using solvent , but  can't wet sand with  waterbase ..well you can to a certain degree by using degreaser instead of water , but some water base base coats are still tacky sort of .... even  need a special tack rag , called aqua tack :yesnod:

nice job on the GTO  :yesnod:  .... i think water base is much easier doing repaints  in metallic than solvent even with slow thinner & the temperature turned down , ..as it stays open longer :yesnod:

Yes, I use solvent based materials and I'll use solvent based paint for as long as it's avaliable,I don't have time or money to waste on overpriced treehugger waterborne junk,no offence

none taken Stefan  :2thumbs: no worries
yeah i see what your saying .... i thought the same was using solvent base for 15 years before we switched .... once you get set up ..i tell you , you won't want to go back ... high solid lacquer is the same ..light coat & hit it with a full wet coat straight away , job done  :yesnod: wack it on bake ..... just what you want for a collision shop ..... having said that though ...still used the old M/S paint system for  my Charger :coolgleamA:

For the record , the Clear is the same for Water borne base or Solvent in Sikkens system . Also the Base is cheaper than Solvent , the problem is most shops cant afford a 80,000 spray booth that use high air flow to cure W/B base
