This quote sums up the type of people doing this:

"In one particularly malevolent attack, youths in the eastern Paris suburb of Meaux prevented paramedics from evacuating a sick person from a housing project. They pelted rescuers with rocks, then torched the waiting ambulance, an Interior Ministry official said."

Random civil disobedience is once thing, but denying care to sick individuals, and then destroying the ambulance is completely uncalled for.

Vain, did you get a sense of any of this when you were there this summer?

Some people just suck...especially when the mindless friggin' sheep are caught up in a mob mentality. :rotz:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I guess not everyone is happy in France...

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Johnny SixPack

Not enough mayo for their french fries? :D

Could be people realized eating snails and frogs doesn't necessarily make you happy.   ;D

Whatever the case is, lets all hope it doesn't spiral out of control.

This situation is ripe for some group to move into and really start causing some hell.

IIRC France was already beginning to step on some Islamic toes this year due in part to a proposal to ban traditional Islamic clothing in French schools.

My dad hates the french.  he is 70+ years old and was a child during WWII.  He used to tell me that the french "fight with their feet and fuck with their face"

No, no violence when I was there, but it's been brewing for years.  The violence is at the hands of (of course) the African and Arab Muslims living in France, and mostly centered in the suburbs around Paris, especially Meaux, which is the Parisian equivalent of Berkeley.  The reason it's in the suburbs is because French communities tend to be the opposite of American ones in that the best parts of the country are the inner city and the worst are the suburbs.

Anyhow, the reason they're doing this is ostensibly because a couple of hoodlums were accidentally electrocuted while running from the police, but really it's because they feel they're being discriminated against and held in poverty and unemployment.

Sounds like the same group of people wouldn't be happy no matter where they lived...

Some of the replies so far are interesting. I wonder if the French thought similar things about the U.S. when there were riots in L.A.?

Possibly.  But looking at it objectively, these people cause A LOT of problems.  With France's lax immigration standards and very, very comprehensive welfare state, these people literally do come into the country uninvited and live off the working French.  It's super-pathetic, and now they're rioting because it's not enough?

How do you get accidentally electrocuted?

The same way you get intentionally electrocuted...but by accident. :scared:

"By daybreak Saturday, 897 vehicles were destroyed â€" a sharp rise from the 500 burned a night earlier, police said. It was the worst one-day toll since the unrest erupted Oct. 27 following the accidental electrocution of the two teenagers who hid in a power substation, apparently believing police were chasing them."

Head, you seem to like the devil's advocate position on many things, but honestly... I don't think a comment from one 70 old guy repeated by someone else, and then posted on a random message board really makes a statement regarding all Americans.   :icon_smile_wink:

As Vain stated on more than one occasion, and also info provided by my sister (she spent six weeks there this summer also as part of a study-abroad program), the French people actually seem to like Americans.

So much of the animosity that we people supposedly have for the other is just propagated by the media.

I would be interested to know what they thought about the riots, but I don't think they thought is was because we didn't have, "enough mayo for our french fries". :D

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I wasn't trying to make a statement. I really am curious if statements made in this thread about the riots in France are similar to statements folks in France might have said about Americans during the time of the L.A. riots.

As for being the devil's advocate. I'm an angel ... cursed with the ability to view most anything from every angle.

All they have to do is to legalize rioting and vandalism and the problem goes away.

Bull, You have a way with words, my friend. Very Funny.

The French are their own worst enemy. Once again, lax immigration laws and the leftist/socialists who support easy immigration have screwed the rest of us. The only answer to this problem is to ship them back from "whence they came". They should start with the ones they catch every night. Photograph & fingerprint them, find out what country they are from, take them to the closest military base, load them onto C-130's bound for the Middle East, strap a parachute on their bony asses and kick them out at 15,000 ft as you fly over their former 3rd world fiefdom.

Good bye and good riddens.

Maybe someday the politically correct idiots who believe that the Muslim religion is peaceful will come to the realization that the  religion actually preaches world domination and the extinction of anyone that does not follow their beliefs. It's spreading fast and no one seems to be willing to admit it. France is the poster child for the case. Once again they are going to be taken over and will do nothing to stop it. Serves them right.
