Gurney Superbird at Nichels

This was taken in the Nichels Engineering shop fabrication area, late 1969 either before or immediately after the Texas NASCAR race.  As you can see the car is right out of the paint booth with the paper still on the back glass. Wet sand paper on the decklid. Looks like they have a full crew on the car.

Is this the car now believed to be the Engineering car? We can see on this picture the dash board. What else have you learned about it lately?

I believe it is the Engineering Superbird, passed on to Norm Nelson in 1971.   Several people have commented that they heard that Gurney's car was the Engineering car.

This is a photo of an unknown car I bought some years ago.    The photo was taken at Milwaukee, probably 1971.    The answer became apparent when I showed Greg K the photo recently.    It is not his #88 Daytona as the guage panel and toggle switch details are different.    But, as you can see, it has the slot cut into the dash for the three button remote switches for the Lockheed data recorder.  It also has the NASA sourced spray on foam on the floors and kick panel areas.   This foam came from Bill Wright's Huntsville based rocket people.   Since it is parked next to McCluskey's Superbird, there is a 50/50 chance it is the blue Norm Nelson car which I believe is the Engineering Superbird.   Because of the hole in the dash and foam, I think it HAS to be the Engineering Superbird.    Norm's car also has the metal air scoop mounted on top of the drivers door.  Compare the bottom photo.
