Whelp, I just got back from the urologist. I been putting this off for a few years now, finally, last month, I decided to face my fears. A few years ago, I had a real bad bladder infection. Well, it was cured. But after that, I started to have problem urinating, as in I lost any and all of the normal stream. Another words, I couldn't pee far enough to put any fires out if I had to. It has gotten so bad, I sit when I go. And it takes like 5 minutes to empty out. No kidding at all here. Anyway, I went to the urologist today to have this looked at. Well, after talking about this for a little, he decides to check the 'ol prostate (you know, bend over, and with gloves, kY jelly, two fingers, and a hello insertion). He says that even though it is a little enlarged, it shouldn't be the problem. So, no enlarger prostate for me. Now, he says...... Time for the penis probe :o :o :o I'm like what the hell is that (like I didn't know). He takes me to a different room, tells me to strip off my clothes waist down, and wait. As I am waiting for them to come back, I am seeing a I.V. drip, a big tube with something in it, and all the other things you normally see in a exam room. Well, the nurse comes back in, tells me to lay back, then takes this big tube of jell. It is a numbing jell that they squirt into the opening of the penis :o (felt like a pencil being inserted I think) :P Didn't really hurt, but was uncomfortable for sure. Then the nurse leaves for about 15 minutes. Her and the doc come back and then proceded to take this camera probe, and insert it you know where :eek2: Actually, couldn't feel that at all by this point and it took like 5 minutes. But he wanted to look all the way up into my bladder. But he could not get into it because I have major scaring of my urethra (tube your pee travels through). He says that is a common side effect after having a bad bladder infection. He said he could see at least 3 of these long and narrow scars, but couldn't get past the 3rd one. Sooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Next Wednesday the 11th, I am having surgery to be reamed out. I get knocked out, I guess they go inside, cut the scares open, then burn them down the center so they stay spread open and thus, opening the blockage. I was told this is actually quit common in men, and has a 85% cure rate. I asked 85%? He said they can come back and I'd have to go through this again, BUT, it is very unlikely that they will come back. I will have a catheter in me then for 2 days after before he removes it next Friday :eek2: He said then I'll should be able to pee normal again after like 5 years. I'M NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS NEEDLESS TO SAY :rotz: :eek2:

Thank you sooooo much for the descriptive narrative.   Seriously, good luck with the procedure. Should be painless (if you don't think about it, that is). Let us know what you remember of the procedure...most of us will be there at some time in our lives.

Well, my story is not quite as bad as your's but if it will make you feel any better (and give something for the other guy's to laugh at ) i had a badly swollen testicle not once but twice! there is surgery sometimes required but i never needed it but i had the same "fingers up the ass" treatment (something i hope i never have to have again ) but then the doctor came buy with about 6 young doctors in training and said something like "this is what a swollen testicle looks like" and i had to (well i guess i could have said no but at that stage you dont care) show them  then i saw them taking notes etc I said to the doctor "why couldnt this have happened to my c..k"?
which made the young doctors laugh  :smilielol: but all that was needed was antibiotics which is a better alternative to surgery imo so hang in there, you will be ok and you will have some interesting stories to tell.

Ouch.  Sorry to hear about the need for this.

On the positive side, it probably beats a major enlarged prostate problem.  This sounds more likely to be a one-shot deal because of the bladder infection, and not a recurring/worsening problem for decades to come.

Hey, good luck with the procedure, it doesn't sound all that bad.  :2thumbs:

Twice in the past I had similar things done, & both times everything worked out fine. The first time was for pain & swelling in a testicle when I was about 24 years old. I woke up in the middle of the night in so much pain that my wife (girlfriend at the time) took me to the emergency room at 3 AM. The doctor couldn't find anything wrong, but pain meds did wonders & he referred me to a urologist.

The urologist decided that he needed to perform the same procedure you had, a "Cystoscopy" but in my case, he was going all the way to the kidney with the camera because he was sure he saw an irregular shape in the x-ray or whatever he looked at. I was going to be asleep under anesthesia, so they told me no food or drinks after 9 PM the night before. Of course they never told me why I shouldn't drink, so I cheated the morning before the exam.

When they had everything ready in the hospital, they asked if I ate or drank & I said I had 1 or 2 sips of water after I brushed my teeth. It was only then that explained that they couldn't put me under with anything in my stomach & offered a local anesthesia. I said no freakin' way I'm staying awake for any of that & it was rescheduled. Man were they pissed, but oh well.   After all was done, the diagnosis was that they couldn't find anything wrong & that "I must have pulled a muscle" & that was it.  ::)  I urinated blood for about a week, so be prepared for the same.  :o

I actually think it was a hernia that was never diagnosed correctly, because about 6 years later, the same pain came back, & this time it was diagnosed as a hernia by a different doctor. I had surgery & the recovery was about 3 or 4 weeks. One thing they didn't tell me though, & this was a real shocker, was after the hernia operation, the area will bruise. My first day home from the surgery was tough & I was in a lot of pain. When I made it to the bathroom for the first time, I saw more than a bruise. Everything was different shades of purple, black, blue, & it scared the s**t out of me.

I didn't expect to see a the entire groin area, including the penis, purple colored & looking as though it might fall off.  :scared:  I called my wife into the bathroom & asked, "Mary, does this look normal to you?" The look on her face gave her away before she said a word.  :smilielol:  I decided to call the doctor who basically laughed & said, "don't worry, bruising is normal & there is nothing to worry about." I was okay with hearing that, but it would have been much less stressful to know it before I saw it.

I suppose you can also expect a bruise, so don't panic.

And definitely no purple penis pics if that happens.  :o

I think trying to get it though my skull that I would be self cathing for the rest of my life was just as hard as the fact I was gonna be in a chair.  There's an ointment that helps numb for able body folks but yours will already be in so maybe take it out in the middle of the night when you're half asleep.  :shruggy:

I used to have UTI's (urinary tract infection) frequently.  As a matter of fact one of the last one's I had coupled with pneumonia triggered autonomic dysreflexia which caused my stroke induced coma.

Urodynamic studies, now those are a real joy.

Easier said than done, but you should be fine, unless the Dr. slips his personal phone number in your gown pocket. :moon:  :icon_smile_wink:

Good luck man.

Yeah i think it must be the weight thing or just lifting and working a lot. I had what they called an infected testical a couple of times and just took antibiotics for it. It feels like some one kicked you in the balls for a couple of days and you cannot do anything but lay in bed.

Whelp, I'm back. Actually, got back about 2 hours ago. But I been explaining everything to my son. And, I had to eat as I was STARVED! Anyway, it went very well, I was out of surgury in about 45 minutes. They gave me 2 pictures of my urithra, before and after, at the beggining, I was 95% plugged closed, the second pic you could slid a pencil in the tube. First thing the nurse said is when I asked if I was done is "Yup, you will be able to write your name in the snow again". Now I can't wait til this Friday when I go in at noon to have the catheter removed. I hate how it feels like I have to pee all the time  :P

Thanks for everyone's well wishes

That's a cool idea.  :2thumbs:

You could also bend it in the shape of a heart stapled to a piece of cardboard.

You might not even have to paint it red.  :smilielol:

They took it out today. It feels good to be able to walk without the emergency brake being tugged on by the catheter :eek2:

I asked if I could have it, but they wouldn't give it to me. She asked me why in the world would I even want it, I told her why. She laughed but said she couldn't give it to me because it is considered hazardous material once used.

She said it might burn for a day or three when I pee. And I haven't had to do that yet :-\

Pete, sorry, didn't know that you and the G/F broke up. At least with your next G/F you can tell her that you've had your equipment retooled.

That's okay. I haven't really had any luck with women ever. I'm pretty used to it. I am somewhat dating another woman right now who is huge into hot rods and muslce cars. Her uncle owns a custom hot rod shop, and her dad and uncle used to race stock cars. Her dad also just got let go by Chrysler after several years.

glad to see you lived...     going to the hospital is something i ALWAYS put off...    whenever I go they always want to stick me with something...    tube up here or there...    snake down the throat to get a lung sample, cathiter, shots, give blood, blood screening, white blood cell cultivation, draining my knee....      every time I fo it is unpleasant...       my buddy once told me...    "so you think getting a 1/8" tube shoved up your c*** is bad ?  try getting a 1/2" tube shoved into one of your f***ing lungs through your ribs without any morophine...    that's pain...."

He ended up getting a chest tube after getting a collapsed lung in Iraq from an IED so I'll take his word for it...     there is always some poor bastard going through more pain....
