if the vin plate and fender tag match how can i tell if the engine and tranmission is correct to the car? 383 2bbl 70 charger 500, 1968 RT 440, THANKS

First, welcome to the board! In a '70 the engine and transmission should be stamped with the cars vin number. Take a look at http://www.1970chargerregistry.com/ to find out just exactly where to find these numbers. Do a search here also on this topic.

The '68 is a different beast. The fender tag and vin do not match. Look at this thread http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,38316.0.html to get up to speed. Again, avail yourself with the search function on this site. Pretty much all Charger knowledge is here.
