I used to love watching it.  I can't take anymore UFO, modern marvels and how it's made crap.  What happened to the GOOD stuff ???

1969chargerrtse

I can do without UFO's as I have never seen one, nor do I know of a normal person that has, but I like " how it's made ".
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

500hp_440

I second that, but I like the modern marvels and how it works, but they put some crap on there with the good stuff.
Let it alone^.

Funny how when those people get abducted by space aliens its usually when there asleep and theres no witnesses. I can do without the UFO crap. Nothing ever gets solved and I don't see what it has to do with History.

I don't believe in any of it.

That's the discovery channel. If you are talking about Deadliest Catch anyhow.

Yea, they have lots of that UFO/Monster Quest but they seem to be on early. I watch later in the evening cuz I think that The Universe and Cities of the Underworld are cool. Plus they do some cool history stuff - On Lincon/Washington, the story behind Valkyrie (WWII). That's all good stuff.  :2thumbs:

Thats why I watch history international and the military channel. They have some pretty good shows on and the show about Valkyrie was really cool.

I thought I was getting all these stupid UFO shows because I'm stuck with History Channel International. It seems you guys in the U.S. are also afflicted.

I would love the military channel, but DTV wants to tripple my monthly costs to get it. Piss on that. :brickwall:

I don't mind the kooky stuff if it's the first time that I'm learning about an interesting incident.

But most of those TV shows are the same half-dozen incidents being rehashed year after year.  (Hell, decade after decade.)

Like there's ever gonna be anything new to say about the Roswell story.  Or that grainy old footage of bigfoot walking across the creek.

FJ571440B

I think "SHOOT OUT" is the best show on there right now, especially when they show live footage,2nd would be the new episodes of "cities of the underground" or something like that. Cool _hit!
Next time....

ACUDANUT

Shoot out is awesome. Especially from Iraq.  I have not seen that "shootout" air in a long time.  :scratchchin:

All that UFO, Nostradamus, and Apocalypse stuff is kinda odd for the History Channel. But I do love Modern Marvels, Dogfights, and all the other shows about a specific historical topic or event. At least it's not the Hitler Channel, like it was a few years ago. I do miss those kick ass "In search of..." w/ Leonard Nimoy from back in 70' that they stopped showing a couple of years ago.

I'm "heh" towards the military channel. Used to be better when it was "Discovery Wings".

I came across a show called "The real housewives of Atlanta"(Bravo channel). My wife and I watched in horror for about 20 minutes. At that point I said no wonder the rest of the world hates us.

but they do have some really good programs on HC . MEGA DISASTERS , MODREN MARVELS , SHOOT OUT and a few others but mostly thier shows are a bunch of crap that has nothing at all to do with history

as for the DISCOVERY CH . they just went down hill in the last 5-6 years the only show i watch on there is MYTH BUSTERS

and TRU TV blow except for after 11pm then its FORENCIC FILES till the early morning .

A while ago on HC, IIRC, they had a Abe Lincoln special.  I figure, cool I'll watch.  US history around that time interests me.  Then they have Gore Vidal subjectively commenting on how Lincoln was a depressed mess, had no idea what he was doing and then somehow going off on a tangent talking about how the war on terror is the same as a war on dandruff?!?!  If that was able to get televised on that channel, I was done watching.  Sounds like I haven't missed much.

Personally, History channel to me is one of the best channels there is. I love it and watch it all the time. Ya, Monster Quest and UFO hunters is out there a little, but I like Axe Men, Ice Road Truckers (a lot), Modern Marvels and when they have the WWII stuff on. With the execption of a few misc shows, 90% of all the tv I watch is Discovery Channel, History Channel, Travel Channel, and National Geographic Channel, Speed Channel.

At least it is all much better the Americal Idol bull shit :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

You know, compared to most of the tripe that's on other channels, NGC and the History Channel are great, even if they do have a few sucky shows ("The Dog Whisperer?").

You know what channel has really gone to the shitter? TLC. Used to be the "The Learning Channel", but now they might as well call it the "The Freak Channel". Just about every show is about super fat people, parents that have litters of kids, people with some bizarre condition (the Tree Man :puke:), midgets, giants, trans gender characters, miscelaneous freaks (the pregnant man, the steroid dude whose arms "blew up"), those horrible mothers who put their infants in beauty pageants, and - depending on your perspective - you could argue that the tattoo shows are about freaks too.

because, for example, if someone brings in some obscure or random Civil War artifact, they will start talking about it and throw out some pretty cool facts about it ("these bullets were special because the casings were made out of melted blahs blahs..."). Or "bills of this year are easy to spot because of the paper..." That sort of thing. It gives the show a historical context.

I do get pissed off at some of dumbasses that bring stuff in. Like the guy last night who brought in the CSX Cobra body. The "expert" told him it was worth about $60,000, he took the $30,000 they offered him. I don't know the guy's circumstances and maybe he desperately needed the $, but I would have told the pawn guys to go f themselves and I'd have put it up on ebay or craigslists.

almost everyone does that. Like the guy that brought in that clock. He took $500 because as the pawn guy told him, it wasnt working and didn't know how much it'd take to fix it. The pawn guy paid some guy $50 to fix it and now the clock is worth $2k. Do these people (the sellers) think much at all? If the seller had bothered to have it looked at before he took it in, he might have made an extra grand. That's what kills me about that show.

first i think RICK paid him $700.00 for the chronometer he didnt hold a gun to his head either  and  knowing what the cost of the repair was going to be was a key factor its not like that was an old wind up watch that repair costs are around $300.00 - $400.00 it was chronometer and would cost a bit more to repair , let alone trying to find somebody who does repairs on a chronometer  here is an example of a qoute given to a guy on one of the WATCH forums
http://mb.nawcc.org/showthread.php?t=34872

QuoteMarine Chronometer Repair

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello-I have a chrononmeter that I would like to get repaired. It says on the chrono face 'VERSGLASHOTTER UHRENBET RIEBE'. I believe it is vintage WW2, gold hands and until recently ran fine. However when I last went to wind it-I felt like the key was just turning without it's customary resistance which leads me to believe that the only thing wrong is connected with the wind up mechanism (please note I know nothing about intricate watch mechanics and this is only a guess). I brought the chronometer to a watch repair facility in Fort Lauderdale where I live and was quoted a 3900 expected quote which I thought was outrageous and totally beyond reason. If anyone who reads this knows of any place in South Florida or any chrono enthusiastis that could guide me to a more reasonable repair person I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks! Chris

History Channel really has started to suck.  I think it's a marketing thing.  They moved alot of the good content up  the dial to the Militay Channel and History International Channel.  Sign up for the more expensive package and get the good stuff again.

So for me it's pretty much watered down History Channel and the Boob Whisperer.

History channel seems to be doing the MTV-style bait & switch.
They'll keep moving the most popular content to another channel until everyone is buying several channels from them.
