Did the 72 Charger come with Dana 60 option? And was the 383 still around then?
Have been looking at this 72 and got to wonder if that Dana would work on a 69 Charger :scratchchin:

Sure, they were; I think most hemi or 440 4-speeds had them, and they were an option for others...  I know the 400 was dropped in '72, but I'm nearly sure the 383 was still available.

Thanks for the info, i thought everything funny ended in 71 :icon_smile_big:

Still wonder if that Dana on the that 72 will fit a 69 body without serious work :scratchchin:

Really?  wrong on all counts... my shame knows no bounds!

I got the 383/400 backward :P

If danas weren't available in '72, they were putting 8-3/4 behind 4-speed hemis?  Or did hemis and danas end together (as far as chargers go) in '71 as well??

RD

hemi wasnt available in 72 either.. last year.. 71.

72 charger is wider than a 69 charger.  you could relocate the spring perches, but the overall length of the axle will require you to address backspacing issues when ordering rims.

69coronetRt is right, the dana 60 did come on 72 4 speed 440 chargers usually Rallye's there are a few 72 SE's with the 440-4 speed and dana. dont know about other 72 models. Pretty sure it was dropped in 73? I THINK the 8.3/4 was used on 400 cars in 72 is that right 69coronetRT?

Yes. Dropped in '73 as the 4 speed was N/A behind a 440.

8.75 behind the 400.

To my knowledge the Dana 60 was dropped mid year in 72; replaced by the 9.25 (hexagon shape) for late 72 and later years.

Measure it anyway, you never know...  Someone might have stuck a narrower rear under there to make room for bigger tires or something.

RD

Learn something new everyday... thanks for info

Ian,

I just took a quick look at the parts book and I see no indication of a 9.25 rear for '72 B-Bodies. Do you have any factory documents on this you can post?
