High up :nana:

about 33,000 feet?  I'll say Switzerland..?

That photo was taken at 12,200 feet.

Switzerland is correct Paul - here you go!

Myself and three other buddies are here for some skiing and to celebrate the fact that we all have made it to 40 years of age.  Our birthdays are all within 6 weeks of each other so we decided to go all out.

This village is in a dead end valley at the base of the Matterhorn, that is only accessable by train.

This photo shows the cable car, how we got up there and the next shows the village we are staying in.

This place is amazing and heaven on earth for skiers and I thought all of you would appreciate the pics.

More photos as time permits.

WOW! when i turned 40 my buddies took me to see the Stripper's. :pity:

Zermatt to be exact!  Just about my favorite place in the world.  Spent a couple of weeks there for our 20th anniversary.  Be sure to spend some time just walking around the village, it's amazing.  Also, take the cog train further up to the top of the mountain.  I'll skip the beer.  Just send me a single malt scotch.  Bob

We got back on Sunday and I am still feeling down about being back at work.

Yes, Bob we did find some time to see the town.  We went skiing 6 days out of the 7 that we were there and we took Friday morning off to look around as all week we only saw it in the dark as we stumbled home at 2:AM from the apres ski hangouts.

We did take the Gonergerat train up the mountain and skied down, we did stop at the Iglu bar first for a few.  We also skied into Italy for the day.  The run was 12km/8mi long and took us about an hour to get there.  Had lunch and made our way back to Switzerland.

I'll try and post some more pics soon.

BTW - the second photo I posted, the first one in reply # 4 - to give you an idea of the size of the mountains, there are 140 people in that cable car.

I'm 33 now, and this is a damn good idea. I'm gonna try to go on my 40th birthday..  that is if my Charger is done by then so i can afford it.. haha   :icon_smile_big:  :icon_smile_big: :slap:

Mike, how does skiing in the alps compare to the Rockies in Colorado?  I think Vail has a run thats 5 miles long, but no 8's..

Take your own advice Paul (re: the mid-life thread) and live it to the fullest.   :yesnod:

Yes, my family means the world to me and I'd throw myself in front of a train to save one or all of them but I am still my own person, which is why my friends and I decided to go all out for a milestone birthday like the 40th.  We are concerned with living life with regrets and most certainly do not want to sit around saying we wish we would have done this or that.

We may regret spending the money to do something like this for a short while and it won't bankrupt the family however if we did not do something like this, we would regret it forever.  We spoke about it in August and my Wife agreed that we should take some time for ourselves.  She had stated that I have worked for 20 years and I have taken her and the children on plenty of vacations and will do so in the future - she had no problem with it.  She is a real darling or a woman!

The Charger will be there when you get home - start floating the idea by your buddies and get a plan in place!   :yesnod:

As far as skiing in the Rockies compared to the Alps - I don't see a huge difference!  I skied in Aspen a number of years ago and truly loved it.  My Brother lives in Calgary and has a cabin in Banff and we have skied there many times, also truly enjoyable.  I don't see a major difference.

We chose Switzerland for a few reasons.  One of them was for bargaining purposes in the future.  We feel we'll want to do something like this again in the next two years and if state to our wives that we're ready to venture out again we know they'll pipe up and say "you're not going back to Europe"!  our response will be "OK - we'll use the free cabin in Banff and use air miles to get to Calgary" - done & done!   :2thumbs:

We had the time of our lives!  Here are some pics for you all.
