Model Car Replicas

I've decided to offer up my services. I build model cars in my spare time. I've built around 20 and I've been building for around 10 years. I've won a few awards at shows that I've attended in the last year. Just recently, I've decided to start building model car replicas for people.


I do mainly Mopar models but I am willing to do other muscle car models too. I'm not too firmilar with the newer cars. All models are plastic and either 1/24 or 1/25. I include the following things when I build models:

-Carpeting
-Athentic looking chrome trim (not silver paint)
-Detailed interiors
-Detailed chassis'
-Detailed engine compartments (battery detailing, firewall detailing, ignition wires)
-Custom licence plates to match your car

That's just to name a few things. I do mainly stock looking models because I'm not too skilled with custom cars.

Prices on models vary. I've consulted a few people regarding a price I should charge and most people said I should charge $15 an hour. I think that is too much so I do it for $10 an hour. I get a lot done in an hour. Supply cost, kit cost and display case cost are extra. I insist people do the display case charge because I've seen too many built models get wrecked in the mail. Display cases really help get it there safe. They cost around $9 but are completley worth it. Model kits cost around $20. You can either supply a model kit or you could send $20 CAD so I can purchase the kit. It's entirely up to you. I'm in BC, Canada so please keep that in mind when it comes to funds. I only do money order because I don't have a pay pal set up.


I'm pretty busy right now. I currently have 5 model builds going for people so if you'd like me to build you a model replica of your car, please let me know either on this thread or via PM. It shouldn't be too long, I'll start building new orders once I get a few of the current builds around 50% done. All funds from building the models go to restoring my Charger and getting a few parts for the Duster. I'm including some pictures of some of my personal builds.

No probs. I've been building for 10 years so I'll be building in a year still However, models give you a good idea of how your car will look finished

I'm not sure about him, but he has seen my work so he can relate here for a second. For me it takes at times 2 months (I do detailing and pluming) to do a build. What cod doesn't do and I do is I put working a-arms on my cars and if they have a solid steering (stright ahead) I mod them to make them turn left and right. Now this work alone takes afew days to do so. If someone is haveing me make them one, I try to keep them updated all the time, and photos going to them of the build and always asking them questions as it's there car in the end when it's finish. 

Cody afew tiomes have watch me on a forum build afew models and he even got ahold of me to find afew tips out for on his builds which I help him out with. It's nice seeing a young guy wanting to learn this stuff so he can do it as while on his stuff.

I'm working on the front parts for the 69 revell to convert to the 1970 version the out side over. I will also be working on the tail area after I get the from parts done.

I've been thinking about doing something similar with my military kits I've been building lately. A buddy of mine showed me a couple of ebay links with guys who build armor kits and sell them for serious $$$. I love building cars too but I'm too attached to them to sell most of the time. I just let them get stolen from competitions....

Sadly, yes. I entered a '71 Duster 340 I built over a period of about 4 months into a local show here in Wichita. To this day I still think it was one of my best efforts. B5 blue, fully plumbed and wired, Bare Metal trim, seatbelts, carpeting and the works. The show was a3-day event in a big convention hall. Since I was babysitting my Charger at the car show in another wing of the building I couldn't keep my eye on it all day. I went back on the last day after judging to pick up my stuff and the model was gone. I was told I "should have kept a better eye on it." I told them I had higher priorities like making sure my REAL car wasn't damaged by showgoers.

I haven't been participated in that show since, either in the model category or with my car. This is also the same show that MOVED MY CAR without my permission after I left for the night. That was the real dealbreaker for me. I would have left the moment I saw what they did if my car wasn't blocked in by that point.

The show was Starbird, BTW.

Wow. That's a shocker. I've left my models at model shows before and nothing has happened to them. Although, I caught some other guy trying to move my model so he could make more room for his display. I wasn't too impressed. Do you have any pictures of your models? Also, they moved YOUR car without telling you?

Yep, they said they needed more space so they moved my '71 into a corner in the building. It pissed me off because they would NEVER ask one of the high-end guys with a Barris-built customs to put up with treatment like that but they clearly don't give a crap about the everyman car enthusiast if they're willing to treat us like that.

I don't have a lot of car model photos but I can post a couple of in-progress ones. Give me a few and I should have something up.

I would say that there is a tone of stuff there that you couldn't do on a model. Such as, Tach. you'll never know one way or the other. How you going to know if its a AM/FM radio??? Oh, you wanted a right hand remote mirror? Make sure it's not power! Don't really know how you could tell. Performance axle pack huh? I think a dana looks just like a dana. 3 speed wipers would be a no go too. 426, are you paying, or just want it done? Just an FYI also, a duel snorkel air filter assembly isn't correct for a 69.

That stuff is kinda hard to do on a model. Whatever comes in the kit goes on the model unless it's something different like different valve covers or whatever. My question for you is, would you actually pay for it (keep in mind $90-$115)....or do you just want to see one?

I have done a model of an F6 440 4-Spd and It looks so real!!! So I know what it takes I spent 3 months on it.  One more month and better painting I would have had it where I wanted it.

Sorry. Well I guess there will be work.  The TorqueFlite is a hard to find model transmission.  BTW 1969 Charger R/T from Revell Muscle.

Just my 2 cents....been around Mopars 40 years..... Dual Snorkel NEVER on a 440 R/T with air (or without air). Ever. Unsilenced is correct . Perhaps you observed a non correct car and assumed they came that way...easy to do when you are a youngster.

Sometimes it's better that way...just traded for a '66 Charger and looking forward to making her complete. Looking for some pics of correct engine bay set up. Need original, big block engine bay pictures so I can take my 383, 4 barrell, ac, power brake, power steering out of the box and do it right! Thanks!

Like automotive art? If that's what you mean, then yes I have, but I don't have a booth or anything. I usually just take my sketchbook with me and ask to do drawings of stuff I find interesting.

I'm FINALLY getting back to work on some of my projects...now that my dog is house trained and I can trust him not to tear things up when I leave the room I can spend extended time in the workshop. Going to Hobbytown this week to pick up some paint, and then ordering a few aftermarket items online to continue my OIF diorama project.
