My "69 Charger has been a PIA since its arrival, but today I'm one step closer to having it on the road.

Back in late June my original 22" rad went for a pee break, and that was all she wrote.

Purchased a new 26" BeCool drop-in aluminum radiator, since it was supposed to be a direct swap.

Well, it wasn't. :D

So after removing the battery tray I got the extension plates (part of BeCool's swap kit) mounted and then drilled the holes out and mounted the rad. today.

Didn't think the tray was gonna be useable again, but lo and behold, it fit with some massaging.   ;D

That saves me from having to relocate the battery right now (but it will be moved to the trunk eventually), 'cause I'm itching to drive this thing!

Have to wrap up the B&M trans. cooler tomorrow, but baring any new problems (fingers are going numb), she may be on the road tomorrow!

Here's some pix of the installation, and also a couple pix of the repositioned tray:

not much room on either side to play with:

ditto:

this pic shows the old bolt holes (circled) and their new locations:

and as an added bit of piece of mind, we tweaked this piece to fit again:

Pardon the mess, she's a bit dirty from all that waiting around for my lazy @$$! : ::) ;)

Thanks for looking.

Ron, that is it indeed.

That with the MP viscous fan oughta do the trick!

I'd like to try the combo out in some hot weather, but can't say I miss the triple digits.   ;D

Oh well, it'll be ready for the trip to the TDC meet in Missouri next year! :2thumbs:

It looks like you're keeping busy anyways, is the fan gonna fit?  That sure is a good lookin' radiator.

Johnny, wasn't yesterday a big day for you.  Did you take your big pumpkin out for a cruise?  I haven't seen you on the 70 board in a while.

Mike, if I checked everything correctly (not holding my breath!   :P) it should.

I was all kinds of stoked for Halloween, since I've got the Jack-O-Lantern "70, but it was severe thunderstorms and heavy rain here.

Not one trick-or-treater!

Which radiator is that?   i thought you bought this one...   http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=eadvsearch.asp&SearchType=Make   but i guess not.   the filler neck is different....   ???

Pocket, that's the one I was looking at originally, but since it didn't have brackets/petcock I went with the direct drop-in model BeCool offers.

If I had to do it all again, I'd go with the Summit model.

Bigger rad and much cheaper.

Why didnt you just get the old radiator fixed?

Todd

Good question, Todd.

The original would have been about $250 to recore and since the plan is to eventually put a 496 stroker motor in there in place of the 383, I opted for bigger rather than repair.

Plus, with the Texas heat, more cooling is a plus.

Especially since this car will eventually have A/C and a 5-speed.

Next time I go down this road though, I'll go with the Summit brand 27" rad.

Will you be putting your fan shroud back on or do you need to modify one?
