I've thought about doing one but I have so many irons in the fire now I'm not sure which one to work on next. A neaighbor down the road has an old cab over kenworth that I've thought about seeing if he'd be interested in paying me to haul it off.   :smilielol:

Where do I start here. I been looking for a cheap old Dodge, Diamond Reo, Brockway, a pre 1980 Mack or Superliner, or pre- 1980 International. I plan on buying a Peterbilt for work when the time is right again. Maybe a Kenworth K100 too.

The rig you are looking at is not old!  You should visit the ATHS web site and go from there if you think you want a hobby truck.

I've been thinking about making a "Favorite Trucks" thread because I haven't seen one on here, but it looks like you beat me to it.  My favorite classic American truck is a 1969 Ford Ranger, hands down!  A SWB one with a big block and a 3-speed on the column would do me just right.

I like late 70's and early 80's kenworths, peterbilds and freightliners ! ;) gotta have someday a kenworth w900! smokey & the bandit!!  :2thumbs: but this is cool too, and fair price! : http://www.truckpaper.com/listings/detail.aspx?OHID=1941137&guid=B0FD13E6077C4B67B44CD19E84221B9C

I have seen those first two videos already. They're both from Canada. Those guys in the video are nuts. It's suprizing they don't tear the drive shaft right out, little alone the rear ends.

This guy is a member of "Hank's Truck Forum" that I'm also a member of. This is the actual Convoy movie truck & trailer, both fully restored. There are also picture posted in one of the truck threads here.

It was reconstructed with as much parts as possable from the real movie truck which was rolled after it was turned into a cement mixer. And it was licensed by the state as the real deal. If you read his website on the restoration of the truck, he tells in detail all about it. And, I owned the dvd of the movie since it was re-released. It's my all time fav movie.

I am having someone check out a W900 or W900a today in fact that has been sitting for sale for over a year now in a small town. It had faded paint, but overall, looked to be in good shape. I'm thinking it might be able to be had for under $15,000. if itis a '90s model like I think it is. I'll know more tonight or tomarrow. If I can get a loan, I want to buy a older truck, and go back to work for myself. Potato season here brings good money. I was told I could pay off a $20,000 truck in 5 months if I did that. I always liked the needle nose Petes'.  I had one as my first assigned truck when I worked in the patch.

When I got off the road I had close to $20k in savings and planned on buying the truck I was running, which I got new.  Until I fell in lust with a cocktail waitress at Jubitz truck stop, all down hill from there.

Well, here is the Kenworth I mentioned earlier. A friend up where the truck is stopped by yesterday, and grabbed these pics and the phone number on the truck. He also said this,

'86 W900...425 CAT (not sure if it's an A or B model), 13 speed, 60% drives/60 steers (no name cheapy tires on front), 8 bag air ride. Forgot to look to see what rears are in it.

Overall the truck looks OK for it's age. needs a little paint/polish. Good price... $10,500 but I bet you could buy it cheaper than that. Last registered 2005...

He also said that I'd have to drain and flush the fuel tanks to remove the old fuel otherwise it will plug up the fuel system after sitting so long.

I tried to call this morning, and got a answering machine. So, I hope I get a call back on it soon. I'll keep you updated. My friend Rick said that if I lease on where he is, I'd have it paid off in the fall already if I get a $20,000 loan for it.

He called me back on his cell. Anyway, he bought it after the original owner died. At that point, it sat a while already. It was a cattle hauler. It does have a 15 speed, not a 13. And the engine was replaced with a newer one, and only has around 125,000 on it. The guy who bought it, bought it on a splurge, and doesn't really need it. That is why he is selling it. Supposabley, there is another guy interested in it, but he hasn't talked to him in a while. He said considering the trucks age, it rides nice and quiet going down the road. Not to many rattles either.

I never been there. But I do know for a fact that the Movin' On KW & B.J. & The Bear KW are the real trucks that survived from the tv shows. The guy who owns them has a large truck collection on the west side of the state. He also had those down here in the Allenton car show last year, and at the Waupun truck show last year too. There is one other remaining truck from the tv show Movin' On (out of the 6 originals) that is still out there being used on a farm as a regular work truck. I have pictures of it hooked up to a bottom dump.

When I left Kansas I moved out to the Bay area to drive for a custom cutter who had some trucks out there running LTL up and down California.  I drove a round headlight KW short hood, big sleeper that came from the factory with a KT600 motor originally.  It had a 400 Cummins when I run it.  I'd never run one of those KT motors but heard lots of stories.

One of his other trucks was a 359 Pete with a silver 92 & Allison.  That was his wife's rig.  IIRC, those long hood KW's usually had KT or V8 Cats in them.

KW's are good trucks. I ran a Longnose with a 3406 and 13 speed for awhile over the Coq between Kelowna and Vancouver. That truck had 2.5 million KM's (about 1.5 million miles) on it and it ran and drove like a new truck. I prefer a Peterbilt but I think the KW is a better truck. If you get out of a KW or Pete and into a Freightliner or Sterling, you feel like you're driving an old 70's rattletrap jap car.

That's why Freightliner adopted the nick name "Freightshaker" Although, the '93 - FLD120 I used to own rode better then the Ramcharger's I owned at that time.

And as far a Sterling's, That is why after this year they will be no more.
