Hello,

I was just wondering what kind of gas mileage you all get with the 383 and or the 440. Because it get gas for my 440 you can really feel it in the pocket book.

383 4bbl basically stock.  10mpg if I don't put my foot in it in town and don't get over 65mph on the highway.
When I was just a very young lad I looked up and told my dad, a bareback rider's what I wanna be.  I want the whole world to know about me.  In the rodeo arena I'll make my stand.  I wanna be a rodeo man.  I'll come flyin' from the chute with my spurs up high, chaps and boots reachin' for the sky.  Spurin' wild with my head throwed back, you'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.  You'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.

Fresh 440: 6 - 7 mpg, tires seem to smoke alot though.

I just sold a 74 SE Charger with a 318. The buyer drove 400 miles home without having to stop for gas! That was over 20 mpg.

My Charger with 318 2 valve was the same as my 383 with 4 valve Monaco, just a little diffrens when going heavy on the right foot....

glad someone brought this up.. Man my 440 is horrible, I havent measured it but it has to be between 4-8 I honestly can not keep it on full for longer than 5 min. I even checked for leaks!!!!
69 440 RT matching.. mostly original!

cudaken

Well tuned stock cam, headers, Troker intake 600 Holley 3.23 gears I was getting 16 MPG in my Road Runner on the highway and that was being care full. Stock cam is long gone and getting 11 MPG with a 509 MP Cam.

When I got the Runner stock I was getting 14 MPG. Stock 440 should be able to get 12-13 MPG. With some tricks should be able to get 14 to 15. Neil said he has gotton as high of 17 MPG.

I remember Neil saying something about a high hp 440, I believe 600+ that did 20mpg, I really really want to know how to do that.
And I really really think everyone who posted in this thread and others at home crying want to know too  :D
Heck, Neil, I'll give you a call when I'm in Michigan, just build me a swift daily driver engine with good mileage and I'll pick it up  :icon_smile_big:

EDIT: Forgot this, my old 68 charger with stock 383 4bbl except for headers with plenty air in the tires and no crap in the trunk did a good 15 when I mimic'd grandpa and some 8 ish when I drove like it was meant to be.Funny enough, it rarely did anything inbetween.
Loaded it up with 4 people, add some camping stuff in the back and roar to the Ardennes....I was lucky to get 6.

71 Bee Man

I've got a 71 Super Bee with a 383, 4 barrell and auto.

I recently figured I get around 5.6 kilometres per litre around town. This car is a daily driver, and I don't really hoon around that much. My calculations may be wrong, but I worked it out to around 13 mile per gallon (U.S).

Mind you, petrol (gasoline) in Sydney, Australia costs about $5.00 U.S per gallon at the moment.
