383 4bbl basically stock.  10mpg if I don't put my foot in it in town and don't get over 65mph on the highway.
mine too

6670charger

My 383 4bbl/auto with 3.23's and 440 heads gets 15-16 on the highway.  I can't complain, as my former '88 Ramcharger with 318FI and auto never got better than that, and neither did my former '98 Ford Explorer V-8.  Even my current '04 Pacifica with AWD only gets about 21 on the highway.

Mileage?  We don't need no stinkin Mileage.....

Driving the charger r/t between Pensacola Florida and Lake Charles Louisiana to work offshore...  (car had two motors during this period of time, a 383 magnum and a 440 magnum)

383 used to get 10mpg City, and 14-16 highway - got better mileage at 75 than 55
440 magnum got 6mpg city, and 11-14 highway - also got better mileage at 75 than 55.

Stealth turbo v6 gets 18 city, 26-28 highway
04 Cobra v8 gets 18 city, 22-24 highway

I only checked mileage on the 440 charger once, and after figuring out its whopping 6mpg city mileage, i decided not to ever do so again ...was too depressing.  (although i did calculate highway mileage to figure out just how far I could go on a tank- drove 25 miles once on Empty)

Time to resurrect an oldie but goodie thread. I just did my 2nd fill-up today, after an hour and half round trip on the freeway, country roads (Livermore wine country) and residential streets. I was going pretty good (80 on the freeway at times, banging the gears pretty hard on the country roads, but leisurely cruising on the city streets) and attained 8 mpg with the 383 4-bbl. Seems low to me but time will tell, especially after all the fluids get changed and I dial in the engine myself. Oh, and another beautiful day in Northern California!  :icon_smile_big: A photo in Livermore is attached. And as I went to a job site it is all write-off....  :eyes:

...and you have a 318 with 2.76 gears and overdrive?  :scratchchin:  Inquiring minds would like to know!  :icon_smile_big:

I just dug up a receipt from my trip over to St. Louis last year. In my 69 Charger 500 with a 440 and 4.11 rear gears, I averaged 12.9 miles to the gallon on the interstate cruising at 70 mph.

wetfeetmi

 My '70 440 4v r/t got 9+ - combined.
My wifes 01 Beetle diesel gets 47 m.p.g.
Our 08 Camry hybrid is doing about 33 (not broke in yet).
It all evens out in the end.

My car ran on the gas fumes from your car all the way home... ;) Mine dropped to around 22 that trip - must have been the turbulence.

I think WHEN I'M ABLE TO MOVE, so then get somekind mileage, I get about 14-17 mpg out of a 400 4bbl, auto, 3:23 open, bone stock. But driving in Caracas, maybe I can get about 7-8 mpg LOL
Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

The way I look at it is
It's a weekend having fun thing for the most part with collector plates so I just look the other way when filling it up at the gas station.

It's a hobby ;)

If people ever really did the math, they'd build a lot more 87-octane motors with EFI & overdrive setups.

i also forgot to mention that i have 3:91 rear in my charger.... the overdrive helps it out tremendously. the motor is pretty efficient also. however if i beat on it the gas mileage really dips...

You are still getting better than a new SRT8 Charger with that rear end.  Not too shabby. :2thumbs:

Turbulence??   That 500 should have been punching a nice big hole for you to ease through, you should have tried drafting him if you were getting poor mileage and turbulence.   :D :icon_smile_wink:
