Looking for 383 Magnum #0B196875 and 0B115166

Tilar

That's a whole lot out of my price range. Hell I didn't pay that much for my house.

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

I think I'd go with this 66 hemi engine for $50K. It comes in the original metal shipping crate from Chrysler, a 1966 Charger.  :smilielol:

That guy is a little to late to the game to be asking that for that motor. Complete restored hemi cars are starting to hit below the $75K mark!

Ummmm, Chrysler didn't dyno every engine that came off the assembly line. Did they? And at 6,000 RPM? Can anyone who knows about this stuff figure our what the numbers mean? They wouldn't have done that for warranty blocks would they?

Yeah, that's a lot of money but I can afford the story that goes with it. ;)

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Back in those days you could order and pick up cars that had a vin tag saying (NOT LEGAL FOR STREET USE).  The way I understand it, you ordered the body of your dreams and the drivetrain of your dreams but they would not put the motor and tranny in the car. You also had to pick them up at the factory... Some A990 and all A/FX cars were this way from what I am told...  I would think this motor would be one of the (BOUGHT IN A CRATE) motors...

I was just a kid....  :icon_smile_wink:

Don't forget that 426Hemi's didn't come in production cars until 66. Or was it 65?

He's still smokin' the good stuff at that price.

We can all dream, eh?

pettyfan43

If it's a legit crate engine with a Chrysler Dyno Sheet is was a racing engine ordered through a dealer as a replacement and most likely never used.

You could get a "Body in white" which was a shell with no driveline from Chrysler if you had the right connections, but factory race cars (A990 and AWB cars for example) You did get a whole car, it had this same engine and even a complete exhaust system.

You just changed what you wanted to.  Many Nascar racers of the era started as the bodies in white, where as drag racers tended to buy whole cars because Chrysler's engineering on those things were second to NONE!

If someone had a factory racecar (65 A990 Coronet sedan for example) that engine is worth a LOT, but 75k is ridiculous I would think! The cars change hands (I think) for about 150-160k.

bull

That's about $60k-$70k too much for a core IMO. I'd be real surprised if the pistons weren't rusted to the cylinder walls after sitting that long.

It could be a '65 engine since they put them in '66 cars. I've got a '67 engine in my '68 Charger so the date he's giving is not really a red flag to me.

Steve P.

They put them in 65' Coronets too, Bull...

Probably could get that much if it was a warranty block with the right date code for a Hemi Bird or Daytona otherwise....

It's a firm price and he means firm so I suppose what the rest of us think doesn't matter.  :smilielol:

moparstuart

I firmly believe he may have that motor several more years
GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE WE ARE ALL STOCKED UP HERE

Steve P.

One big thing we must all think about is WHY the prices on our cars and parts went through the roof...

SPECULATION..........    Plain and simple. People with more money that knowledge drove these prices out of sight because "THEY COULD". When the first Chevy went out of sight everyone was amazed and started building 1955-7 Chevies. That lead to other cars and before you know it big names started buying cars and then the whirlpool began.

It sort of starts out like a pyramid scheme only most of us know better to get involved with them. This came to OUR hobby and love. We never asked for this.....

So if this guy sits on it for a while or it goes right away at anything remotely close to this price it will start the same kind of trend again... Hence "FIRM".
