which would you rather have?

a 1970 Challenger R/T factory 440 car with 69k actual miles with a new 426 Hemi and automatic that runs and drives but needs alittle work such as paint and seats recovered or a 2008 or 2009 SRT Challenger.

The '70, it's easy. The '70 will grow in value, the '09 will drop like a rock. In 2 yrs you'll be able to buy an '08/'09 Chally SRT8 for $25k.

the 70.

the new challengers will be plentiful. a 70 hemi? not so plentiful.

:iagree:  then you have a 440 Chally and a 6.1 Chally.

Since I already have an old car, I'd go for the 2009 Challenger.

Take the faster one.  :D 6.1

I was never a Challenger fan until the new one came out.  :yesnod:

Lookng at for investment purposes?  The '70 is the clear winner

daily driven smiles all the time?  The '09

Buy the '70 & lease an '09 (after 3 years they will fall apart anyway & yes mine is a lease)  best of both worlds!

The 70, the new one is cool but I still would want the old one.

thanks for the replies. maybe i'll hang onto my 70 for alittle while longer.

i had an idea running through my head of trading my 70 off for a 2009 SRT-8. i'm almost to that point in my life where i don't feel like messing with the older stuff like i used to and thought the new Challenger would be the best of both worlds.

The '70's are cooler but after driving a '09 SRT8....I don't know. The '70 will grow in value and is a timeless muscle car but you can also drive the SRT8 wherever and whenever without worrying like you would with the '70 Hemi. :Twocents: BUT.....you can always get a new Challenger...'70 Hemi Challengers are very rare.

SRT8, there is no contest. It is way cooler than anything running today and you have a warranty to boot.

Sell the 70, you'll thank me later.  :2thumbs: Keep the 70 you will regret it.  :P

Of course, you may not have a warranty too much longer but at least it will continue to depreciate if Chrysler goes under.

Depends, if you like to do your own mods(eng, sus, etc) then go with the 70. You can buy chips and minor bolt ons for the 09's, but the NGC computer is very unforgiving.  :Twocents:

Actually if they go under, it could start appreciating  :scratchchin: ...........it would be a limited production car:
6,800 units in 2008 and maybe 20,000 in 2009  :shruggy:

A lot of the mopar guys who were saying it's to expensive or it's an OK looking car would be running out to buy one real fast if they suddenly announced they were closing down & not building anymore.

Well if comfort is a goal & depreciation isn't an issue, then go w/the SRT8. IMO, & from experience(though the GC is not the Chally) the modern SRT8 will not turn heads like the old iron. I bought my SRT8 because I was frustrated w/my '70 build(getting screwed by a bodyshop) & though I absolutely love it, the depreciation makes me sick.  :Twocents:

there's alot of food for thought on this one. :scratchchin:

i just wonder how bad it would hit me knowing i got rid of 1970 that i have owned since 1981, which has become part of the family. :-\

not to change the subject to much, but my father bought a new 2006 GTO with that 400 HP 6 liter in it with an automatic which he got rid of a few months back with 1500 miles on it.

i drove that car for the first time to the dealership when he traded it off and as much as i hate to admit it, that 06 GTO would give my 70 Hemi Challenger a run for it's money in the straight stretch and i know it would eat my 70 up in the curves.

i just figured the new SRT-8 Challenger would be a simular HP comparison, coarse as mentioned before the new Challenger just doesn't have the look of the 70.
