Pre-Production '69 R/T stripe

Thanks to vancamp providing scans of the 69 Dealer pamphlet, there was a nice pic of the R/T stripe on the tan pre-production RT/SE car.....

Looking at the letters they dont seem to be cut out in the center of the decal....seems like the cut out portions of the letters are moved up if you will exposing more body color under the letters instead of evenly all the way around....

Am I seeing things?

The other pic is for reference

Or is it an emblem stuck over the stripe?

I don't think you're seeing things, there is more of it showing below and to the rear.

Looks like it could even be a black outlined R/T logo on top of the white stripe?

Also looks like it has a 68 style brushed gas cap on it too.

Good eye picking out the fine detail about the cut out on the logo. :2thumbs:

Man that blue and white RTSE is stunning. :drool5:  I love white interiors and white top and stripes.  Whats the code and color on that light blue? Teal?
As for the letters, couldn't it just be that they are not centered, as in the way someone laid on the decal tape?  Slight movement etc...
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

The first thing I noticed was the white painted side marker bezels.

Which they are supposed to be.... The Q 4(incorrect Charger color) car pic I posted above is incorrect....the bezels should be painted stripe color.
Only Charger 500's made it out with the bezel painted body color.

Actually that color is Q4 Light Turquoise Poly(according to the fake tag on the car) which was not a color offered on the Charger

And I'll be darned.....looking at that Q4 car's pic I noticed its different from MY stripe..... ::)

At least mine looks more like this original paint cars' stripe ;)

So, would this be a "protostripe"?

Here's an illustration to help with the discussion, and my thoughts:

1.) The R/T lettering appears to be lifted and shifted to the left and then up to create a drop shadow effect, just like what a 3-D emblem would do.
There does indeed seem to be a continuing outline around the R/T, although much thinner, almost closing in places.

2.) Or-- this is some die-stamping never seen before, with a drop shadow cut-in.

Anyway, just something else to consider. :P

Just 6T9 CHGR

Nice renditon!  I do agree it makes it look more 3-D with the shadow effect.  The top one looks more like the thin body color stripe...

On the other subject where there is more body color showing on mine & an unrestored cars' stripe, out of the 20 or so random "restored" R/T car pics I looked at at least 15 or so have the "more body color" style and about 5 have the thin body color version.....obviously 2 different mfg's.

I can say I got mine from Dave Patik at Performance Car Graphics

Here are a few more unrestored stripes

UFO

Here's another photo, notice how well it lines up with the body line.

Stanleyart

Wow! Crooked!

Ok, let me revise and add to my note:

I'm thinking now this is the original r/t emblem used, lifted and shifted and subtly modified, perhaps by an x-cto, just to make the R/T work with a drop shadow effect, for the sake of getting photographed and into the brochures.

Photoshop gives an idea this might be the case.

And thanks for finding and posting this image!

Here's another original 69 Charger R/T sitting in a yard/marsh.  Now gone.  My 69 R/T was stripe delete, so I can't help ya there.

Crikies!!  That shot makes FastbackJon's theory of a decal more feasable.  Also notice the bezel is still body colored as well...

69_500

All this talk of stripes in this thread and no one mentions that the car has a 68 gas cap on it.

The font in the stripe looks off to me, from others that I've seen. And now you have me wanting to dig up some old pictures of Charger R/T's.

Don't know where you got that from.  The engine was blown up, and taken to the junkyard.  It had been there for decades.  I took a few pictures before they crushed the yard.  Still had the original engine and tranny, but was completely rusted.  I pulled a few parts off of it.
