WASHINGTON (CNN) — Another major American industry is asking for assistance as the global financial crisis continues: Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis said Wednesday they will request that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout of the adult entertainment industry.

"The take here is that everyone and their mother want to be bailed out from the banks to the big three," said Owen Moogan, spokesman for Larry Flynt. "The porn industry has been hurt by the downturn like everyone else and they are going to ask for the $5 billion. Is it the most serious thing in the world? Is it going to make the lives of Americans better if it happens? It is not for them to determine."

Francis said in a statement that "the US government should actively support the adult industry's survival and growth, just as it feels the need to support any other industry cherished by the American people."

On a serious note (sorry, just have to inject this), "why not". Aside from any moral objections the population may have, lately it seems that our politicians are all about helping any suffering industry get back on top. Either to make themselves feel good or buy votes. What ever happened to our taking care of ourselves (may come to this), refusing all Government handouts and making a life with our own two hands (at least in my case :D)?

Just a thought with this obviously Flinty proposition.  :rotz:

I think its great they are asking. No matter if you like them or not they both have been jacked around by the system and goverment in years past. I think this is a good way to poke them right back in their eye.

Why not? Why not bail everyone out? If I'm doing my math right and the S&L industry is getting a $700 billion bailout, the auto industry is getting a $34 billion bailout that's $734 billion. Divide that by roughly 115 million housholds in the US and each one could have gotten a check for more than $30k. Am I right?

If they really wanted to try and kick start the economy they need to send out some real amount of $. Heck if I didnt have a house payment I would go to the Dodge dealer today and buy a brand new 40g diesel  pickup.  And get a subscription to Hustler! They dont have the $ to send us 1500$ let alone 100grand so whats difference?!
