68 Charger RT Column Auto

Is this a good deal? What kind of price differences between, stick, console auto and column auto? I know 4-speeds are priced higher but is there a big difference between the console/column cars?

I'm not big on 68 knowledge, but I wouldn't pay 41k for a column car in today's market.  My thought is, and was when I was looking , that any restored 2nd gen Charger R/T under 30k is a fair price.  I would not by a Charger unless it was console or 4 spd.  But that's me.

Hey now, what's wrong with a column shift car. I was like you till the Charger I wanted was 3 on the tree. I love the buddy seat, which you cant get in a 68 console.

The stock floor shifter was to far away for short people like me, and it always feel lose in my hand.

looks a real nice charger  ...
would not worry about  auto on the column ,  if the car is ticks all the boxes .......  no biggie  converting it to console shift , bolt in deal , just keep the parts for the numbers matching  guys , in case you sell sometime .

I hear people love those buddy seats.  I would buy a column shift if I had to, like a daytona, or Hemi conv, ha ha.  It's all about what we connect to or remember.  My teen years were with a buddy that had a 383 4bbl auto console shift so that's my choice.  I think column shift, I think family cars.

When I ordered my original R/T back in '68, I listed the column shift and buddy seat.  No console or shifter was going to get between me and my date for the evening.   Bob

 I would think that a console and floor shift would be something that most potential Charger buyers would be willing to pay additional money for, but with that said I wouldn't let a column shift turn me away. That center seat when folded down makes a nice arm rest!
Good deal at $41,000.00?  It looks to be a pretty nice car, and if you are partial to that color, well, it might be worth the asking price.  But I'd research it well and make sure its what its advertised to be.

Yellow with black top and interior, 440, 3.23 rear axle, numbers matching with build sheet and fender tag. It also has a tach and hood turn signals - but it's not coded for them. He says it's not too far from the reserve now (at $30,100). I'd say that's a pretty good deal unless the market has dropped way more than I thought. I have one almost just like it but it's gold and has power brakes (stripe delete too but mine has a stripe just like that one). I couldn't make mine that nice for that amount of money.

For the registry/numbers guys - January 24th with the (early) trunk bracing but it has headrests and the late trunk lid too. I'd love to see that build sheet.

For a muscle car, it doesn't get much more comfortable than a buddy seat, grab a gear and then rest your arm on the seat.  I remember the old days.  Girlfriend used to complain her butt would hurt from sitting on pillows.  With a bench or buddy set you could get two chicks up front with you.  Nobody would ever want to sit in back, all the action's up front.

Hmmmmmmmm, correction: it doesn't have a code for the stripe at all. Both of mine have a 9 for stripe delete.

I hear ya. I always wanted "two buckets and a big stick" (only) but I guess a buddy seat isn't so bad. A column auto with a buddy seat should have lots of room for friends.

That's how mine is now.....although not factory. Was a column AT. But converted to a 4-speed and just couldn't give up the center arm rest.....that center "buddy" seat comes in handy for various "activities"....

No it's still useful then, it provides a safety barrier when you don't want to be crowded with the family in the car.  (see, the difference is that now you have to leave the armrest down. )

See.... ( not looking for trouble, I'm still coming down over the 500hp 440 thing ) that's the problem, key word, "family".  Sorry I just don't see Chargers as family cars, even though come to think of it, most were.  To me an R/T is a Muscle car and I want whatever I'm shifting on the floor just like a stick shift would be.  But, that's me.

IMO. A Charger is kool no matter where the shifter is. How about a push button Charger?
