My R/T would average 17-18 when it was stock, 440/727/3.23.....it's all in the tune-up and how fast you drive.....mpg drops quite a bit over 60 MPH..
I'm guessing under 10 now though.....4 speed and 4.10's. 60 MPH is @ 3500 RPM.

69charger2002

man i drive mine very easy, and usually 55-60 on the 2 lane highways around here. i have 4 different 440's. they all get 10 or under. and they are tuned. i am not disputing you at all joshua, i'm sure you got good mpg if you say you did. i just don't see how 1 in 20-30 440's get 20 mpg, while 99% of them get under 10. we need you to come tune our 440's!

69charger2002, Trav what ever happened to your web site? Loved it!

69charger2002

well it still works but for some reason the link on my avatar has www. in it. you can't use it like that.  just type in charger01foster.tripod.com   no www. not sure why it does that.. defaults to it in troy's system i guess

My Charger gets 10 mpg, but my wife's 73 fuel injected 5.9 Cuda gets 24 in town and 29 on the interstate at 70 mph with the cruise control set.
Can't wait to see what the 5.7 hemi 5 speed auto gets when we build the new superbird clone. I figure around 17-20.

I made 13mph on my Carlisle trip last year with 3.23s and a basically stock 440 HP auto.

This is old topic but I answer here too now when I know my Charger´s mpg.. Best in highway driving +60mph was 9.8 mpg and cruising in town 5-8 mpg depending how I drive..  :hah:

So I think these are pretty normal mpg´s to '69/440 Magnum/727/3.55..?  :D :shruggy: ::)

Some of people I know says that 15mpg in highway driving 60mph is possible but to me it´s hard to believe that it could be possible  :scratchchin: Maybe with overdrive transmission or injected engine, don´t know but with this combo I have, hard to believe  :scratchchin:

With figureing the total cost of overdrive & install, and the difference in gas savings that it might save us...how many years would it take to pay for itself?

Around 20mpg or so on the highway in my 68 Charger 318/727/2.76 .
Gas is around $1.82/ Litre here tho, 19gal tank = 72L so around $131 for a fill from bone dry

:scratchchin: Whenever people used to ask me "How many miles per gallon does that thing get?" I would always reply "My Charger doesn't get miles per gallon, it gets gallons per mile"

Anyway, my old castrated 440 got around 12 (poor gas mileage and no fun). I am certain the new build will drop my MPG down into the single digit range. :yesnod:

blue69

My 69 charger with a 472 hemi, 9.8:1 compression, two holley 600 cfm carburetors, and 3:91 gears gets about 9.5 mpg city. It's running rich so I think it can do better.

I just got back from my trip with Charger and now I got in highway 11.8mpg when I was driving +60mph, but I drove kind of nice, so I didn´t floor it many times this time  :smilielol:

But who really cares what it takes  :nana:
