Wow, then I wonder if carb's are the culprit for basically EVERYTHING related to MPG, then I wonder why my 1999 Dodge Ram with it's EFI 360 gets 10-15 MPG in town the same as any carb'd 360? Hmmm...

I wonder why the newer cars with the newer HEMI's are getting basically the same fuel mileage as the older, larger 426 Style Hemi with TWIN carb's in town?

IF MPG was the soul purpose for EFI, then I wonder why it costs so much Vs carb? I mean, looks like to me it would be cheaper to help save the fuel reserves right?

No, seriously, for all of those who try not to believe what they read, Carb's are here to stay just like points. (Yes, you can still by them, for all those youngins that can only hit the key and press the little pedal on the right for 100K miles)...
I've seen carb'd vehicles get the same MPG round town as well as on the highway as their EFI counterparts. Bout the ONLY difference I've seen as to why someone would want one over the other is with the Factory EFI, it starts and runs COLD. One can jump in and Imediately GO. No more warm ups.

However, with the younger croud that can't drive anything that doesn't think for them as far as drivability goes, carb's will forever be shunned.

We have a couple kids at work that if it isn't EFI'd, they can't even drive it. Sad really, as even though I began driving in the mid 80's, my pop STILL taught my ass on a 1965 Plymouth, with a 4-speed and a carb that had a bad accelerator pump. Said "If you learn to drive THIS thing well, then anything today will be a breeze!"

This isn't the case today. People are throwing "Kids" into cars, and the only driving experience they have is from their X-box games and Go-Karts.

No, Carb's aren't the enemy here as far as MPG goes...LAzy, Ignorant, tuners are. EFI does all this for you. Carb's require you get off your ass and tune it if you want power and MPG.

Money will always be the deciding factor as to how many people jump on the EFI bandwagon. I for one refuse to pay $4000.00 for an EFI set up that will get me about 3-5 More MPG from my current set up....It better jump it as much as the difference in price to install it. So, if a carb is $700.00 today, and the Edelbrock EFI set up with EVERYTHING is around what? like $4K?, then if I'm getting like 10 MPG with a 440 with my 750 DP, then If I spend $4K on EFI, I should be looking at over 45 MPG to make it worth it to me.

The Human body has been around for a long, long time...Yet, it still manages to amaze a few "Experts" every now and then...

Average 14 MPG  ,  17-18  on a roadtrip.  Never seams to  burns much less than 3 gallions per hour, so don't get stuck in traffic. Holley carb numbers 1-2 MPG less.  About 15: 1 A/F ratio at cruise (2000 RPM) .

I just came back from a short trip to Orlando with my newly-installed cruise control.

505" wedge, 8bbl TBI, 4 speed with GV overdrive and 4.10 axle ratio. 26" firestone tires.

My mileage test was 136 miles overall with about 7 of that ~45mph city to and from the turnpike. I maintained 70mph on the toll road.

Mileage was 13.6. Not too bad for 3000rpm on the fast and some city thrown in.

I've seen as high as 14.6 in the past, but the ignition timing was woefully wrong and the speeds were 55-60.

Black Betty gets somewhere around 17 mpg highway according to what I did going to Carlisle and back.

Pretty much the same that my 5.9 GC gets according to what I burned going to Nats and back hauling a bunch of Ehrenbergs stuff.
