I know if i want MPG's, why am i driving a charger? My thought is to put a833 o/d behind my 318. The reason is that Wisconsin has the  Rustic Roads Program, So i would like to get 18-20+ mpg if possable. OK start the nut kicking  :smilielol:

Daytona R/T SE

My old '72 Charger used to average 18-20 mpg on the highway.  Dead  stock with 2.76 gears.

You don't need no stinking overdrive  :coolgleamA:

Normal high way driving in my 68 440 auto 3.23 rear, I was getting around 18 mpg.

Go to www.fuelly.com & see my '69 there....
currently in first place out of all the '69s (because I'm the only one so far....not for long I can guess ;) )

I am currently in last place out of all the '08s :(
My lack of highway driving kills mileage as you can see....plus the fact that I dont keep my foot out of it :drive:

Charger1970

My 383 4-speed car (3:23 axle) gets a solid 10.8 mpg at 70-80 mph.  :yesnod:

2015 Challenger SRT

1969chargerrtse

Rebuilt 440/375hp 727 trani, 3:23 gears. 10 mpg at best.  The sucker loves fuel.  I can empty a full tank in a few days cruising around.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

stock 440 save for small camshaft in a convertible B-body with an OD trans and 3.55 rear gears got me roughly 19mpg average
1968 Dodge Charger - 6.1L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.55 Sure Grip

2013 Dodge Challenger R/T - 5.7L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.73 Limited Slip

1964 Dodge Polara 500 - 440 / 4-speed / 3.91 Sure Grip

1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye - 340 / A-518 / 3.23 Sure Grip

472 R/T SE

I initially thought my MPG stayed the same after the addition of the Gear Vendors, but my speedo's reading slow.  So it's around 15-17 depending on my foot which isn't very often.  The new gear swap will prolly lower that.  With me it's SPG (smiles per gallon).

WOW!
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

hemi-hampton

I probably only get around 5 mpg, 10 max. LEON.

If your 318 is a mild build, with the OD. you're talking about, and if you drive easy on the highway you should atleast get 18 mpg I would think.
My '82 Diplomat with a mildly built 360 with thermoquad carb, and auto trans with lock up convertor averaged 18 mpg on the highway if I kept my foot out of it.  My 440's? Thats a different story.

Im seezing 18-20 MPG from my 68 with a 383/727 2.76 rear gears combo............ and i usually drive it nicely.

Just like the last time this was asked, I averaged 14.3 mpg in my 500 cruising out to Carlisle last year. That is at 65 mph with 4.11 rear gear's. Just keep the foot level, and keep it steady.

This year the plan is to swap in some 2.76 gears for long trips to shows. The 600+ mile one way kinda put a dent in the pocket since gas was $4.65 a gallon last July.

BigBlackDodge

Taking it easy (how else do you drive a 318 Charger! :-\) I'd get 15-17 mpg with my 318/727/3.23

i get 8-9 out of all my 440's. and they're pretty stock too. 3.23's, 3.55's. etc.  i can squeeze 12 mpg out of my 383 69 charger. not sure how you guys without overdrive claim to get over 10 mpg with a 440 with anything other than 2.76 gears. i don't see how that is possible  :shruggy:

I don't know how much gas I burn to travel a mile in my Charger, but I can tell you I smile for every damned one of them.
